Theme of the lesson: Happy Birthday and Numerals
The aim of the lesson:
* To develop students’oral and written communication skills and habits; to improve pronunciation and translation skills; to motivate individual and pair work. * To bring up feelings of friendship and respect in relationship between students. Talking about age and birthdays. Type of the lesson: practical lesson. Equipments: textbook, workbook, placards, cards, computer. Methods of teaching: explaining, question – answer, researching, individual and pair work, warm- up, exercises, Language focus: How old …? Vocabulary Birthday, seahorse, pupil, bad, good, happy, OK, today, Good morning/ Sorry I’m late/ Materials: Flashcards: fish, octopus, seahorse: CD
Procedure of the lesson
I. Organization moment a) Greeting b) Duty’s report
If any child is late, explain that he/she must say Sorry I`m late. Write it on the board for the whole class to copy into their notebooks and learn for future occasions!
Phonics: ow ---- Clown, cow, flower, how
Revise the language from Unit 3.Read aloud the description of Becky in Activity 10 on page 25 of the Pupil`s Book.
Revise the words octopus and fish and teach seahorse. Put the three flashcards on the board. Point to the fish and ask What is this? Encourage the children to answer with a full sentence It`s a fish. Do the same for the octopus and seahorse .In your own language, ask the children where the creatures live and how many legs each has. The children should answer the last question in English.
Now prepare the children for the story and teach pupil. Say I am a teacher and Nora is a teacher. You are pupils and Fish,Octopus and Seahorse are pupils.
Write seahorse and pupil on the board and tell the children to copy their notebooks.
Listen and read
Ask the children to open their books at page 26.Tell the children to look at the pictures for a minute by themselves. Then say that this unit is called Happy birthday! Ask the children to try to guess what birthday means. Sing Happy Birthday to help them. Find out if anyone in the class has a birthday today. Then ask the children to guess whose birthday it is in the story
Discuss what happened in the last episode. Give a brief outline of the story and talk about the pictures in your own language
Tell the children they are going to listen to the story on the CD play the CD

Read the story slowly and clearly to the children stopping after each speech bubble.Check the children understand the words
When you have finished reading the story write Good pirates and Bob pirates on the board. Ask them children to find the names of the good and bad pirates (Good pirates-Eddie, Fred : Bad pirates-Rob Bob)
Play the CD again. Ask the children to point to the speech bubbles as they listen.
Read the story slowly and clearly to the children again, stopping after each speech bubble. Tell the children to repeat in chorus after you. Then let the children take it in turns to read aloud.
Play the CD again for them to enjoy once more.
