«A
literary path across Moscow and Moscow suburbs»
(Presentation
of sights of Moscow and Moscow suburbs for foreign visitors of the capital)
Authors of the project:
pupils of class10b Semenov Andrey, Shalick Kristina, Osovitskaya
Asya.
Project leader Semenova
Galina Yurevna, the teacher of English language, school №45.
Research area:
Literature, History and English language.
Object of research:
monuments to our favourite poets and writers.
Research hypothesis:
we want to collect a material about our favourite poets and the writers making
literary glory of Russia, and to develop the literary path in the places
connected with them, to translate the prepared material into English, to draw
attention to a literary history of the region. As the project is humanitarian,
research has specific character, not such as in natural-science disciplines,
and includes gathering and the information analysis, a choice of variants of a
route, a choice of structure of the description, selection of material and its
ordering.
Our purpose is
to open rich literary history of native land for pupils and for foreign visitors
of the capital.
Problems:
1. To collect materials on the specified area of
research.
2. To raise the level of knowledge in following areas:
- English language.
- The Literature, culture and art.
- Communicative competence.
3. To prepare young guides-interpreters in the
allocated places of Moscow.

in the places chosen by children, in Russian and English languages.
Actuality:
Russia is a great country with the richest literary traditions. There lived and
created outstanding poets and writers making national pride and glory of Russia
– A.S.Pushkin, M.J.Lermontov, N.V.Gogol and S.A.Esenin.
These names are dear for
us as well as to the majority of Russian people. The literature ennobles a
human soul, opens to it beauty of human spirit. Studying poetry, we learn
history and culture of the people because in poetry its thoughts, ideas are
most brightly expressed. Through the best samples of the literature that
important communication for any people with last generations remains. These our
interest to the given theme speaks. The theme is many-sided and mentions
different interesting areas: to plunge into history of Russia,
to like creativity of Great Russian poets and writers more deeply, to learn
about Wednesday in which they lived, to share the opening with contemporaries
and to try to express it in English.
Living in Moscow, it is interesting to us to learn
more about the places connected with poets, to see monuments from grateful posterity.
Therefore, we have decided to devote the project to
disclosing of rich literary history of native land for ourselves, for the
companions and for visitors of capital who through our project can touch secret
of Russian soul and the best in the Russian literature.
We want to share it with visitors of the capital from
the different countries that through culture there was a rapprochement of the
people. Presently, when political conditions in the world are again heated, the
theme of an exchange of cultures between the people is especially important.
For this purpose, the project presentation was made in English by means of
modern computer technologies.
The information on the given theme can be interesting
to teachers of many subjects as the designing area is on a joint of several
subjects: literatures, English language, москвоведения, stories, geography and
computer science. The project also is of interest for professional
guides-translators, both in Russian, and in English.
Question level of newness:
Despite of a large quantity of tourist routes across Moscow and Moscow suburbs such literary excursion
on the Boulevard Ring in English also does not exist, and such
guidebooks too are not present.

The literature review.
By preparation for the project authors had been read
and analysed many references. We will begin the review with the book which have
turned habitual representations about life and creativity of well-known Russian
poet Sergey Yesenin. Its interesting and tragical destiny is known and familiar
to much under the books which have left recently and films. L.V.Zankovsky's
this book [2] has caused a great interest of authors of the project to the
given theme and was an incitement to its creation. Before occurrence of the
described book there were only standard stamps about life, destiny and causes
of death of the poet, much was a riddle in understanding of its scale and value
for Russian poetry of the beginning of the twentieth century.
Distinctive feature of the given book is that
consistently leaning against a historicism method, it gives absolutely new
treatment of person S.Yesenin and a role of its creativity in life
послереволюционной to Russia. Cleared of slander and наветов, fabricated from
personal self-interest or the ideological purposes, the tragical figure of the
great Russian poet and the thinker, a role and which value appears at us we
just now we start to understand.
L.V.Zankovskoj's second book is devoted three
poets-contemporaries: to S.A.Eseninu, V.V.Mayakovsky and B.L.Pasternak. In this
book as three histories of life and creativity are fascinatingly reflected and
the analysis of that value which these poets have for our generation separated by
a century from them is carried out. Besides, L.V.Zankovskaja has conducted deep
historical research of time in which lived and these remarkable Russian poets,
the analysis of political conditions, wars and revolutions, cruel race for
power, atmosphere of sufferings, a grief and hope, love and disappointment
created.
Poetry as wine, is checked by time, these poets to us
become more expensive every year. Eseninsky «Big sees on distance» well
describes historical prospect of the present poetry.
Igor Evsina's book [3] about destiny and S.Esenina's
belief is written on a favoring of metropolitan Simona (Новикова), the adviser
was the director of the State memorial estate S.A.Esenina E.N.Astakhov.
In this book for the sake of removal of a sin of
suicide from soul of great poet Sergey Yesenin the reasons of his death are
investigated and are called нечестивцы, torn off his life.
When over a tomb of the person, in many years after
his death, people, that почтить its memory this person has lived life knowingly
gather. If these people gather not only, that is reverential почтить memory on
left but also to tell each other that its works are live and now to connect
with it and its products the present and future works is there was a great
person. We can carry these words and to poet Sergey Yesenin to tell: «Sergey
Aleksandrovich Yesenin – the great Russian poet»
In the book «Boyish years of Pushkin» V.L.Avenariusa
[4] is extremely fascinatingly told about the first years spent in Tsarskoje
Selo lycée by great both impudent madcap Alexander Pushkin and its friends
I.Puschin and A.Delvigom. The book is sated by a rich historical material which
is a little known or absolutely unfamiliar to the modern reader.
In the book «Destiny of one family» [5]
I.I.Rozhanovskaja in very interesting manner tell about owners and visitors of
manor "Ostafevo": N.M.Karamzin, its friends and wives, and about
three generations of Vjazemsky and their friends.
Lydia Belova in the book «Alexander – Michael
Lermontov's last love» [6] has quiveringly and delicately described difficult
relations Aleksandry Smirnovoj-Rosset and M.J.Lermontova which were connected
by hot, jealous love. This is art-documentary product is created on the basis
of A.O.Smirnovoj-Rosset's memoirs, memoirs of its contemporaries and contains
many interesting historic facts for fans of poetry.
Victor Kuznetsov [7] correctly analyzes the facts of
last years of Yesenin's life and convincingly proves participation of many
friends and acquaintances from an environment of the poet to its murder and
discovers the facts of their communication with ОГПУ (Department of the State
Political Management).
At work on the project were investigated «Yesenin's
Complete works [8] and« Gold volume »by A.S.Pushkin [9].
Natalia Gorbachev creates a captivating image of the
wife of the great poet in «Fine Natali» [10] and removes from it a fault brand
in death of the poet

Pushkin Aleksander Sergeevich
(06.06.1799 - 10.02.1837)
Alexander Pushkin is the best
Russian poet; he is our glory, our honour. He is the greatest Russian poet,
writer, critic, playwright, founder of the Russian literature and “the sun of
Russian poetry”.
The monument by Opekushin was opened in 1881. This event became very
important for Russian people. Many famous writers, poets and common people came
to celebrate the opening of the monument. The monument is situated in Pushkinskaya Square.
Dostoevsky made his favorite speech
about the specific role of Russian people in the world and its duty before
other peoples. It was just Yesenin who opened the celebration and made a
remarkable speech about Pushkin and recited the specially created for this case
poem, devoted to Pushkin.
The opening of this monument became a big cultural event.
This square was reconstructed specially for the monument to Pushkin. The former
name of this square is Passionate, because of the convent of passion.
It’s the popular place to meet with people because here 3
metro lines cross each other (green, grey and violet) and it’s comfortable to
get place in time and have a meeting. Besides the square is located in the
center of the city and you can get easily Red Square or Arbat Street in dozen
minutes.
Pushkin was born in Moscow, was married in Moscow and spent many happy
years here. A lot of pages of his poems are connected with Moscow.

Yesenin
Sergey Aleksandrovich
(21.09.1895 - 28.10.1925)
Sergey Yesenin is the most
lyrical poet in the world, the most Russian poet and one of the most favourite
poets in Russia. He is a great poet. He can be compared with Pushkin. There are
many big poets but only few of them can be called geniuses. They lived and
created in different times. Pushkin was the poet of golden age and Yesenin
created at the most difficult, dramatic period in the history of Russia, when all the previous life had been changed.
Yesenin loved his Motherland so
deeply, strongly and tenderly as nobody either before him or after, all
misfortunes and troubles of his nation and especially peasants of Russia
made him suffer and were reflected in his poems and poetry.
His own life and fate are as
interesting and dramatic as his creations. The domestic happiness was not anything
that Yesenin was destined to enjoy.
We love Yesenin for his love to
our Motherland, his belief to fair future of Russia and the sincerity and
clearness of his soul lyre. Sergey Yesenin was born in Konstantinovo Ryazan’s
region in the peasant’s family. He loved his native land greatly and described
the nature of his small motherland in his poems. But he loved Moscow too and
devoted a very beautiful verse to it, though he did not have any flat or even
room in it.
The monument to a Russian poet Sergey Esenin at the Tverskoy
Boulevard was unveiled on October 2, 1995. The author of that original
monument is A.A.Bichukov. Esenin is one of the most favorable poets of Russia,
that is why on his birthday on October 3, many Muscovites come to the monument
and read poems about nature, the Motherland, and Moscow.
Sholokhov
Mikhail Aleksandrovich
(11.05.1905
- 21.02.1984)
Michail Sholokhov was a Nobel's prize winner in
literature and he is famous for his series Tikhy Don ,he is author of novels
“Podnyataya tselina”, “They Fought for Their Country” , short story “The Fate
of a Man”.
Sholokhov wrote about cossack’s
land - history, life and traditions of people living in this beautiful free
places in the south of Russia on the bank of the Don-river. This monument is
brand new, it has been built this year (2007). Sholokhov used to live in this
neighborhood, on the Sivtsev Vrazhek street, so the choice for the monument's
location is rather symbolic.
The monument's designer Alexander Rukovishnikov explained the
idea he had intended to transmit with this monument. Sholokhov sits in a boat
and sees the surface of an imaginary river. The horses seem to surround the
boat, but actually they are swimming in different directions. The horses are
allusions of 'red' [pro-Communist] and 'white' [pro-Tsar] armies of the Civil
War (1917-1921). The opposing directions in which horses are swimming are
supposed to symbolize the civil confrontation of 'red' and 'white' supports.
The theme of the Civil War and how it broke the society and even families was a
prominent idea in Sholokhov’s writing.

Gogol Nicolay Vasilyevich (31.03.1809 - 04.03.1852)
There is a very interesting story, connected with the
monument to N.V. Gogol. Sculptor N.A. Andreev managed to create a real
masterpiece in 1909 at the anniversary of 100 years of the birthday of the
writer. This monument has been one of the best monuments of Moscow till our
days. And it was set in Gogol Boulevard, but it stood there only up to 1951, when
our leader of all peoples I. Stalin ordered to put it away, because it did not
correspond to soviet optimism.
Fortunately the monument was saved from demolition and
was replaced in a quiet place - the yard of Gogol’s library on the Nikitsky
Boulevard. Tomsky was ordered to create Gogol, “looking at us with approval”
instead of tired and unhappy former Gogol.
And now we can enjoy both Gogols:
the official merry one and the real person in his last years
The

Dostoevsky Fyodor Mikhaylovich (11.11.1821 - 09.02.1881)
F.M.Dostoevsky is a Great Russian
writer who is well known round the world together with A.Pushkin. It is
impossible to imagine Russian literature without Dostoevsky. His spiritual
heritage is terrific. He was deeply concerned in solving the most important
problems of Russian people. He believed that Russian people had a usual
“mysterious soul”.
He showed the internal world of
people with such depth as nobody else. It was he who attracted attention to the
fate of a simple person with common usual life.
He was interested in depicting
behavour of different people in different situations: tragic, romantic, happy
and unhappy. His heroes are poor and pitiful, homeless and rich, noble and
magnanimous, mean and greedy. He himself knew life very well: he knew awful
poverty, hunger, prison, humiliation. He suffered and he was happy in love.
Many people, his contemporaries, admired him - he was his teacher, leader, even
idol of the youth.
The monument to the Great
Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky was erected in front of the building of the
Russian state library in 1997.
The author of the monument is sculptor A.
Rukavishnikov. Almost morbid asceticism, insularity and anxiety – these are the
features peculiar to Dostoevsky; they are present on the writer portraits, made
by his contemporaries and repeated in the statue, created by Rukavishnikov.
Asceticism, severe expression of
Dostoevsky corresponds to laconicism, dryness and greatness of
the colonnade surrounding the library.
