Read the poem and write
out useful phrases to describe your last Christmas to the class.
When we go on winter holidays, we exchange
gifts and don’t do sums.
We have just pulled crackers! There are some ginger crumbs.
It’s lots of fun to decorate the Christmas tree and to sing Christmas carols.
We have a good tradition to sing “Jingle bells, jingle
bells”.
One more fun is to eat a special meal and to dress
up.
Some people have a house party, some people can go to a club.
It’s like a global
masquerade, so let’s wear masks, make wishes and keep up old
traditions.
Believing in Santa is
kind of fun, I respect both old customs and fascinating superstitions.
Watching street
parades
and throwing streamers is a great idea too.
We always take a chance
to take pictures and to experience
something new.
What fun it is to blow candles and to receive
gifts and cards.
We cook a festive supper, make
toasts and dance to top hits in music
charts.
What would you do if you

is your favourite holiday and how do you celebrate it?
(decorate
one’s homes with lights, make/light/set/let off fireworks, participate
in/perform/enjoy folk dances, exchange presents/gifts, receive gifts, open
gift boxes, receive long-awaited presents from Grandfather Frost and Snow
Maiden, buy presents for their relatives and friends, write letters to Santa
Claus, wrap up their gifts, leave gifts at the bottom of the Christmas tree,

old year out at midnight on the thirty-first of December, go to a New Year’s
dance, reserve a party for the New Year celebration, get together, bid
farewell to all things old and embrace the new, have a house party, visit
friends and neighbours, all of us make whishes, hold glasses of champagne, wish
each other a Happy New Year, wish each other luck for the New Year, have a
leisurely breakfast, open the presents Santa has left for us, believing in
Santa is kind of fun, like finding small packages in our stockings, spend my
Christmas holidays with my family, read us Christmas poems, open presents
around the Christmas tree, bring their handmade things, organize a Christmas
party, make a traditional Christmas meal, put a big tree in the middle of the
dining hall, bring a present and put it under the tree, take a holiday during
the Christmas break )

S: We have concerts
before such state holidays as Victory Day and May Day, International Women’s Day, Defender of the Fatherland Day. We also have a theatrical performance with Father Frost and Snow Maiden before New
Year. We also act out short plays in English.
b)
S: We usually have a lot of concerts and
perfomances during the school year. But the most exciting is the New Year performance. Besides, we have concerts to
celebrate International Women’s
Day and Defender of the Fatherland Day.

E/a : Do you
enjoy taking parts in these events and why?
a) S: Yes, I like taking
part in these events. First, it helps to develop our creativity and it makes our school life more interesting too.
b) S: I sometimes enjoy
taking part in the preparation
process but I never like
dancing or performing on stage. I think that’s because I’m
generally a shy person.
3. E/a: What event would you
recommend organising at your school and why?
a)
S: I would recommend organising a fashion show as there are a lot of talented students attending a
handicraft club at our school. They make really
beautiful clothing items there which are worth seeing.
b)
S: I think we should organise the day of ecology. I believe this event would help
students learn more about ecological problems and the ways of solving
them.
