Presentation
Today
we shall speak about our Cities of Kazakhstan.
Almaty
is located in the southeast of Kazakhstan. Its population
is 1.5 million. Although it has lost the status of capital, Almaty remains the largest
financial, economic and cultural center
of Central
Asia.
Almaty
was the capital of Kazakhstan from 1929 to 1998. It is one of
the most beautiful cities in Kazakhstan with a population
of 1,200,000, situated in the foothills of the Zailisky Alatau
Mountains. In the medieval era it was the Almatu locality, in 1854 the
Zailiiskoe fortress, and from 1921 to 1993, Alma-Ata. After the Decree of the
President of the Republic of Kazakhstan of October 20, 1997 "On the
declaration of Akmola the capital of the RK" Almaty recieved the status of
city of National importance and became the southern capital of
the country, the largest national financial, scientific and cultural center.
The Residence of the Head of State and Government remains
here. Branches of food and light industries dominate the economy of the city
and produce over 70% of products of industrial enterprise. Some machine-building
and mechanical factories represent the heavy industry of
Almaty.
In
1963, the settlement of Aktau received town status. The city is a major oil and
gas production center, and is known for its unique heated oil pipeline. The
population of Aktau is around 175,000. It is one of the most prosperous towns
in this part of Kazakhstan, built in the 1960s on Mangyshlak
peninsula. It is the center of the Kazakh oil and gas industry and a Caspian
seaport. The only nuclear power station in the country was built not far from
Aktau, which also famously powers the city's desalination plant. Some
interesting places: underground mosques (10th-12th c.),
necropolis (9th-19th c.) on the territory of which there
are many stone statues, Beket-Ata
necropolis.
Atyrau
(named Guryev during the Soviet era) is a city in Kazakhstan, and the capital
of Atyrau Province. It is located 2,700 kilometers west of Almaty and 350km
east of the Russian city of Astrakhan. Other transliterations include Aterau,
Atirau, Atyraw, Atirav, and Atiraw.
Modern Atyrau is famous for its oil and fish industries.
Atyrau
is famous as one of the Oil Capitals of Kazakhstan. Oil, gas, mineral
resources, and fisheries are the main industries in Atyrau. Atyrau region is
rich in mineral resources, especially hydrocarbons. Atyrau region boasts the
unique Tengiz oil field, development of which began in the 90s. The Ural River
divides Atyrau into two parts: Europe and Asia. Atyrau has the world's longest
footbridge, which is mentioned in the Guinness' Book of World Records.
