1. The
Environmental Problems
Environmental pollution is becoming dangerous. A lot
of waste from factories and plants can cause the distruction of our seas and
rivers. People and animals can be poisoned by dirty water. The other important
problems are shortage of natural resources and the growth of population.
Nuclear tests are not safe either. We will survive if we protect the nature all
together.
2. England
Holidaymakers arrive in England to admire its
beautiful scenery. Highlands turn into lowlands, forests and valleys turn into
meadows and plains very quickly. Fields divided by hedges always look very
attractive. You can visit many places connected with culture and history, for
example, Oxford University or the Shakespeare’s birthplace. East Anglia is
isolated from the rest of Britain because of its shape and position.
3. The
Royal Family
In the 19th century Britain was a great
empire. Nowadays in Britain the monarch reigns but has no real power. The
Queen’s official residence is in London, where you can see public processions
walking along the avenue. The Queen sits on the Throne and wears a crown. Elizabeth
II is good as politics and likes classical music.
4. Scotland
Sam is a modest and smart man. He lives in a
picturesque place. Everyone can see his devotion to his family. There is a
striking contrast between Sam and his brother. Sam likes military music. He
works in the prosperous trade centre. Sam always concentrates on the work. He
is very busy.
5. The
USA
My friend’s great-grandparents were born in the USA,
which is called “a melting pot”. In the USA there are farmlands and grasslands,
empty desertsand endless forests, mountain chains and sandy beaches. The mighty
Mississippi rises in the north and ends in the south. It is an important
waterway. In the cities you can see high skyscrapers.
6. The
US Government
The constitution is the highest law in the USA. The
first ten amendments to the Constitution are called the Bill of Rights.
Congressmen and senators represent their states. The Vice President and the
President’s helpers support him and help make decisions. The citizens vote for
the President every leap year. His term is four years. The Supreme Court
consists of nine judges.
7. The
American President
George Washington had two private teachers when he was
a boy. His family didn’t live in poverty. He learned to shoot, to measure land
and he spent much time on horseback. He was a major in the militia during the
war. When Washington became the president, people trust him and respected him
for his honesty and wisdom.
8. Australia
Australia is situated in the Southern Hemisphere.
Wheat and tropical fruit (peaches, pears, apricots) are grown in the south of
the continent. Northern Territory is the least populated part. Uninhabited
sandy deserts occupy more than half of the vast land. Alice Springs, generally
called Alice, is the only town there.
