·
Every year many tourists from all over the
world come to Voronezh city. And they have their own point of view of the city
and its people.
·
In the foreigners’ opinion, the people of
Voronezh are considered to be very religious. As the time passes, the faith
grows stronger and stronger. They think like that because nowadays there are
more than 300 churches in a region: ten times more than there were in the
middle of the 20th century.
·
This is the city’s Pokrovsky cathedral which
was first mentioned as a church in 1615. Mitrofan, the first bishop of
Voronezh, built a new building instead of the old wooden church in 1962 to make
Russian faith stronger.
·
Now St Mitrofan is the patron of Voronezh.
His relics were transferred from the Pokrovsky cathedral to the Annunciation
cathedral built in honour of St Mitrofan and opened in 2009.
·
The foreign tourists believe that Voronezh
is the city of architectural contrasts. Small old buildings coexist with tall
and modern ones such as Chizhov’s Gallery.
·
There are a lot of architectural sights in
the city that seem interesting to foreigners.
·
The building of the Puppet theatre is
considered the most beautiful. It’s built in medieval style. It’s situated on
the Revolution prospect, on the oldest street in Voronezh. The monument of a
dog at the main entrance to the theatre causes a lot of enthusiasm.
·
The building of the famous shop on the
Revolution Prospect, called «Pad», is very impressive for the foreigners. This
unusual building was first built in the 30th years of the 20th
century. It was destroyed during the World War II. Fortunately it was
reconstructed in the 50th years.
·
The foreigners pay attention to the
aviation monuments. Such planes were used to fly to the enemy during the World
War II. People used to call them flying tanks because they were specifically
designed to strike from a low attitude.
·
The foreigners note the large number of
parks and gardens where people can walk or have a rest with family or friends. The
foreigners like our city very much. They find its architecture amazing and its
people friendly. So they think the people of Voronezh should be proud of their
home.
