Group A
As
the Princess grew older she began to take part in public life. She broadcast
for the first time in October 1940, when she was 14; she sent a message during
the BBC’s children program to all the children of Britain and Commonwealth.
Shortly
after her eighteenth birthday in 1944, Princess Elizabeth was appointed a
Counselor of State during the King’s absence for the first time, carried out
some of the duties of Head State.
Her
official overseas visit took place in 1947, when she accompanied her parents
and sister on a tour of South Africa. During that tour she celebrated her
twenty-first birthday, and gave a broadcast address.
Later
Princess Elizabeth’s engagement to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh – was
announced. Their wedding took place in Westminster Abbey on 21 November 1947.
Their eldest child, Prince Charles, now Prince of Wales was born in 1948. Her
sister, Princess Anne, now the Princess Royal, was born in 1950. The third
child of the Queen, Prince Andrew, now the Duke of York, was born in 1964. The
Queen now has six grandchildren.
Princess
Elizabeth came to throne on 6 February 1952 following the death of her father.
Her coronation took place in Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953.
The
year 2002 marked the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen’s
accession to the throne.
Group B
Prince Phillip was born on
10 June 1921 as a Prince of Greece and Denmark. His family was deposed and he
lived in France and finally went to boarding school in Gordonstoun in Scotland.
Eventually he sent his boys there. When he was 18 he met 13 year old Princess
(later Queen) Elizabeth, his third cousin from their descent from Queen
Victoria, his second cousin once removed from their descent from King Christian
IX of Denmark and fourth cousin once removed from their descent from King
George III. They fell in love, but her father King George VI did not want them
to get married right away. Before they became engaged he renounced his
hereditary royal title and adopted the surname of his uncle Louis
Mountbatten. They were engaged in 1947 and married on November 20th of that
year. Before they married he was created His Royal Highness the Duke of
Edinburgh, but was not given the title of Prince until 1957.
Almost a year after their wedding they had their
first child, a boy, Charles Phillip Arthur George. In 1950 they had a daughter,
Anne. They were followed by Andrew and Edward. After the death of his father in
law in 1952 his wife became Queen Elizabeth II and he had to give up the Navy
to help her being that he was now a royal consort. He has been active with
services and takes on a lot of public engagements for his wife.
In the late 1970s he became a grandfather when his
daughter Anne had two children, a boy called Peter and a girl named Zara. His
eldest son Charles had a son William in 1982 and second son Henry in 1984. His
second son Andrew had a daughter Beatrice in 1989 and second daughter Eugenie
in 1991. His third son Edward was created the Earl Wessex just before his
marriage to Sophie Rhys-Jones; they have two children, Lady Louise Windsor and
James Mountbatten-Windsor (Viscount Severn).
Group C
Prince
Charles was educated at Grammar School in Australia, Trinity College,
Cambridge, and the University College of Wales.
The
Prince served as an officer in the Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976; he has also qualified
as a Royal Air Force pilot. He is the President of the Prince’s Trust. He has
helped over 200.000 disadvantages young people through training courses and
grants and the mental health charity. He has regular meetings and discussions
with government ministers, political figures, academics, experts.
On
29 July 1981 the Prince of Wales married Lady Diana Spencer at St. Paul’s
Cathedral. They had two children: Prince William, born on 21 June 1982, who is
the second in line of succession to the throne, and Prince Henry was born on 15
September 1984. He is the third in line of succession to the throne. The
marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales was dissolved in August 1996. On
31 August 1997 the Princess of Wales was tragically killed in a car accident in
Paris. The Prince of Wales has made clear that an important priority for the
next few years will be the care and upbringing of his sons.
