Paragraph
1
Well
I went to Egypt last year with my family. We spent four days in Cairo which was great. And one day we went out to see the Giza Pyramids. It’s difficult to
describe them, they’re just so spectacular. Then we went out into the Sahara. Wasn’t what I expected - no sand dunes, just open spaces and lots of rocks. But I
think it was the best holiday I’ve ever been on!
Paragraph
2
Well,
I wasn’t the holiday of a lifetime, though the plan was nice. Two weeks in the
States, five days in New York! Anyway, the plane took off on time, but we
couldn’t land in New York because of a storm, so we flew to Toronto to land. It
turned out that the hotels in Toronto were fully booked. And they didn’t even
offer us food or drinks! It was a complete nightmare, I can tell you!
Paragraph
3
It
really is a small world, isn’t it? Last year I went with a group of friends to South America. We went to Peru, to Machu Picchu. But guess what? Just as we were getting
on the train, I heard someone say my name. It was Caroline! We had a good chat
about old times and then she went off with her group. After that we went to Brazil. And at the airport on the way back, guess who I saw again? Caroline!
Paragraph
4
I
took a year off before I went to university and decided to see the world. My
idea was to go backpacking and get to India to see the TajMahal. Well, that was
the idea but it didn’t work out like that. I just had a fantastic time in Greece. Well, then I went to Turkey and it was so good that I just stayed there. Finally,
my money ran out and I had to get a plane home. Still, I had a good time.
Paragraph
5
I
was so disappointed when I got there. I mean, it was supposed to be a five-star
hotel and we certainly paid for a five—star hotel! The room was tiny and the
food was absolutely awful. To make matters worse, we couldn’t sleep as there
was a noisy disco opposite our room which stayed open until the early hours of
the morning.
Paragraph
6
I
was supposed to travel to Spain. When we came to Madrid, we found out we lost
some of our baggage. After we discussed this problem with the workers of the
airport, we finally could find it – we had just missed them on the transporter.
After all this disappointing events we could hardly enjoy the sunny weather and
the beaches of Madrid. Nevertheless, it was a funny holiday.

A. A musical festival
B. Buying presents
C. The May day
D. Listen to your

E. Going back to the

F. Colourful festival
G. A Children’s fair
Paragraph
1 My
village in Kent has a fair every year at the time of the apple harvest. On that
day there is always a colourful parade; a marching band is followed by a float
with an ‘Apple Queen’ (a local girt) on it. In the evening there are races for
the children and all sorts of contests involving apples. I don‘t live in the
village any more, but I always go back for the festival because it makes me
feel like a child again.
Paragraph
2
The
best music event I have ever been to was the Jazz Festival in London, last
July. Famous jazz musicians from all over the world came to participate. The
whole place was crowded with people sitting round on picnic blankets. There
were stalls selling tropical fruit and traditional dishes. The music was
brilliant and the dancing and singing went on until after sunset.
Paragraph
3
This
year we celebrated the coming of spring by attending the festival in the town
square. A maypole was put up and decorated with flowers and ribbons. Men and
women danced around it. They were dressed in traditional clothes. There were
homemade dishes, and drinks. We had a good time and I was delighted to take
part in the celebration.
Paragraph
4
I
was lucky to visit the largest festival in the world — the carnival in Brazil.
People usually spend a lot of time on carnival preparations making fantastic
costumes, masks, decorations. In the past it was held in the streets of Rio
where you could see people in beautiful costumes. At present the carnival takes
place in the Sambadrome, a huge new stadium. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed
ourselves!
Paragraph
5
The
most interesting festival for me is Chinese New Year. Preparations begin in
December when shops are filled with people buying gifts. Buying new shoes is
extremely important because it is believed that if you walk in old shoes on New
Year’s Day, you’ll have bad luck. Everywhere you can hear the sounds of happy
children, who traditionally receive coins in red envelopes on New Year’s Eve.
Paragraph
6
We visited a special musical festival in Belgium. “Tomorrowland” – is considered to be an electro and
techno fairy-tale. People from all over Europe came here to listen to the best
bands and DJs’ tracks. And of course there are a lot of dancing and having fun.
I came there to listen to my favouriteSoldout compositions. That was the best
event ever!
