Most people at some point in their life will have an urge to travel. This may be a two-week holiday to somewhere warm or it could be a life-changing year trip. However, can travelling be considered the investment in oneself? Some people believe that traveling expands one’s mind, whereas others are sure that it is just a waste of time and money and there are different ways to widen our horizons.

Personally, I believe that travelling is the better way to explore the world. Travelling in this case is the way to take a closer look at the other people’s attitudes, behavior, preferences, hobbies, lifestyle, and values and compare them with the ones in a home country. Moreover, you are immersed in the other language and culture, have exposure to native speakers and have a unique opportunity to practice the language in order to get by. What’s more, travelling improves your knowledge of features of the geographical position of the countries which you explore that increases your level of intelligence.

On the other hand, some people claim that it is useless to travel abroad, as travelling narrows the mind. In most cases, travelling for people is only the way to escape their usual routine for a while and get a new lease of life. Going no further than the beach and getting a suntan for a whole day are the limit of their mental and physical activity. Moreover, the sad thing about travelling is that people convinced that there is nothing more to explore in the countries they visit than the world famous city attractions. In addition, according to their point of view, the equally significant sites don’t worth their attention at all. Nevertheless, in my opinion, any acquaintance with the historical and cultural heritage expands your awareness and knowledge.

To sum up, I would like to note that travelling enables us to learn something new, improve language and speaking skills, experience new cultures and just develop as a diverse personality.
