Theme of the lesson: “Guess the melody”

The aims of the lesson:

-          To enrich pupil’s knowledge on foreign music;

-         To speak about music to teach students to understand the kinds of music;

-         To bring up the interest to the various styles of music;

I.                   Introduction
Good afternoon dear teachers and pupils! You’re welcome to our competition! Today 4 teams will compete and show us their knowledge in music of modern music. They are students of 9^th form. So introduce yourselves.

Our quotation is: “Music is universal language of the world”

II.                Let’s begin our competition. Our first stage “Listen and guess”. You should

choose one of the numbers and listen to the short extract of the music and guess its name or say the text.

II.               The next stage: “Guessing game”

In this stage you will guess the singer by the description

Elvis Presley is the biggest star of the 20th century. He was born in 1935, in East Tupelo, Mississippi. On July 6, 1954 Elvis made his first commercial record. He tried to sing ballads, country songs, but it was rock and roll that made him famous. The music critics of the time, however, were not impressed. They found Elvis vulgar. But his popularity grew. When the Beatles replaced Elvis in the early 1960s as the most important figures in rock, John Lennon said: “Before Elvis there was nothing”.
