Efim Alexeevich and Miron Efimovich Cherepanovs
were father and son. They were Russian inventors and industrial engineers. In 1834 they created the first Russian steam locomotives.
The length of the first railroad was only 800 metres and the speed of the first locomotive was about 15 km/h.
Today the model of the first Russian steam locomotive type 1-1-0 constructed by the Cherepanovs is exhibited in the Central Railway Transport Museum in St-Petersburg.
Father and son Cherepanovs were not only the construstors of the first steam locomotive. They also created other steam machines for work in mines and invented several unique screw-cutters, boring mills and lathes.
Most of their lives they spent in serfdom of the Demidovs, a famous family of plant-owners.
