Ведущий: At
3.15 a.m. on June 22, 1941 fascist Germany invaded the USSR without the
declaration of war. Hitler boasted that he would smash the Soviet Union in 5-6
weeks. But his plan didn’t realize. Our people heroically defended their
Motherland for 1418 days and nights. This war finished with the victory of the
USSR on May 9, 1945. This year we’ll celebrate the 70th anniversary
of this Great Victory.

The victory the Soviet people
won in the Great Patriotic War cost them very dear. More than twenty million
Soviet people were killed.
The Nazis destroyed and
burned many cities, towns and villiges.
At the call of the Communist
Party the whole Soviet people rose like one to defend their Motherland.
Millions fought against the Nazis. “Count me a Communist”, the soldiers said
before going in to battle.

K.Simonow
During
World War II outstanding Russian writer, poet and journalist Konstantin Simonov
was a 25-year old correspondent. The poem
by Konstantin Simonov «Wait for me», about a soldier in the war asking his
beloved to wait for his return, was addressed to his future wife, the actress
Valentina Serova. His poem was like a letter. In February 1942, when the
Germans were being driven back from Moscow, Pravda published a lyric which
immediately won the hearts of our troops. Soldiers cut it out of the paper,
copied it out as they sat in the trenches, learned it by heart and sent it back
in letters to wives and girlfriends; it was found in the breast pockets of the
killed and wounded. In the history of Russian poetry it would be hard to find a
poem which had such an impact on the people as "Wait for me". It made
the Soviet officer and Russian poet - Konstantin Simonov - world famous.
Translated by
Yuriy Zubovski
Wait for me, and I’ll return.
But really truly wait,
Wait, when you are concerned
By yellow rains of late,
Wait, when the snows blow,
Wait, when it’s hot,
Wait, when others say to go,
With yesterday forgot.
Wait, when from far away
Letters don’t arrive,
Wait, when everyone might say
No hope survives.
Wait for me, and I’ll be
return,
Do not wish them well
Those who have in their minds burned,
That it’s time to say farewell.
Let the mother and son believe
That I’ve from life retired,
Let friends no longer grieve,
Sit down by the fire,
Drink a bitter wine
In memory of me …
Wait. At the same time
Don’t drink free.
Wait for me, and I’ll return,
Death is who I’ll spite.
Who did not wait for me, in turn
He’ll say I’m lucky, quite.
They who did not wait can’t fathom,
How among the flames
By waiting for me, madam
Helped death be overcame.
How I survived, will consecrate
Only you and I, –
Simply: you knew how to wait,
And refused to say goodbye.

The peaceful labour of the
Soviet people was interrupted on June 22, 1941, by nazi Germany’s treacherous
attack. It was an exceptionally cruel war, and in it the USSR
was defending not only its freedom and independence, but the freedom of many
other nations and оf world civilization.
« Day of Victory»
The Soviet people won the
Great Patriotic War against their powerful enemy, nazi Germany, and its allies
because they were fighting a just war to liberate their own country. All the
people of the multinational Soviet state joined the fight to defend their
Motherland.
In Berlin, there is a monument to a Soviet
soldier, the liberator.
The bronze statue of a
soldier stands with his sword on the swastika
He has just torn dawn.
In his arms he holds a little girl who clings
to him trustfully. Nicolai
Masalov was the name of a Soviet soldier,
who saved the life of a
three-year-old German girl. The heroic deed
of Nicolai Masalov, who
during the last few days or even hours of
the war risked his life
to save a child- probably the daughter of an
enemy soldier, was a
living manifestation of the high morale of the
Soviet soldier, who
came to the centre of Europe in the stormy
Spring of 1945, not as
a conqueror, but as a liberator.
This is why thousands
of people look upon the bronze monument in
Berlin with such
admiration and gratitude.
2.
The ninth of May,
The heart of spring…
Of peace on Earth,
Of joyous Spring
All people sing
And voices ring.
And everyone is gay
On such a glorious day!
Peace to you, people !
Under
you feet
May
Earth never shudder
Like
a ship at sea.
Peace to you, people !
May
never the snow
Catastrophically
boiling
Your
fields overflow.
Peace to you,
people !
May
fire in your breast
Burn
bright and steady
But
never your home molest.
May your lives be brimful
Of
good things, I pray
Your
tomorrow be better,
Than
yesterday.
MAY THERE ALWAYS BE SUNSHINE!
1. Bright blue the sky
Sun up
on high-
That
was the little boy`s picture,
He
drew for you,
Wrote
for you, too,
Just
to make clear what he drew.
CHORUS:
May
there always be sunshine,
May there always be blue skies,
May there always be Mummie,
May there always be me! (twice)
My little friend,
Listen, my friend,
Peace is the dream of the people.
Hearts old and young
Never have done
Singing the song you have sung.
CHORUS.
Soldier lad, stay!
Hear what we say_
War would make all of us losers,
Millions of eyes
Anxiously gaze at the skies.
CHORUS.
Down with all war!
We want no more.
People, stand up for your children!
Sing, everyone-
Peace must be won,
Dark clouds must not hide the sun.
Day
of Victory
Words by Vladimir Kharitonov. Music by David Tukhmanov.
Translated by Tom Botting.
1.
Day of Victory! Oh, how far away
it seemed!
Like
a daying ember, hope once hardly gleamed.
Scorched
and choking, dusty, weary miles were those!
We
all did our best to bring our Victory close.
Refrain:
Oh,
that Day of Victory!
Cordite
in the air,
Day
so youthful,
Silver
threads in golden hair.
Day
of beauty,
Tears
of joy gleamed everywhere.
Day
of Victory!
Day of Victory!
Day of Victory!
2.Night
and day your molten steel would light the skies,
You, our land, our Mother, never closed your eyes.
Nights and days of struggle, bitter days were those!
We all did our best to bring our Victory close.
Refrain.
2.
Mother, darling, though not all
returned to you,
Let
us run barefooted, racing through the dew!
Half
the roads of Europe every soldier knows-
We
all did our best to bring our Victory close.
Refrain.
Katyusha
Words
by M. Isakovsky. Music by M. Blanter.
Translated by Walter May
Apple-trees
and pear- trees were a-blooming,
Mists
were floating on the river , deep,
And
Katyusha’s gone out in the gloaming,
On
the river bank so high and deep
She
went out , and sang so sweet and clearly,
Of
the soft grey eagle of the steppes,
Of
the one , the lad she loves so dearly,
Of
the one whose letters still she keeps
Song,
oh maiden song above the water,
Fly
forward the sunset bright and fair,
To
the soldier on the distant border,
Bring
Katyusha’s greetings on the air.
May
he think of her, so young and lovely,
May
he hear her sing her song above,
May
he guard and keep his native country,
As
Katyusha guards and keeps her love
Apple-trees
and pear- trees were a-blooming,
Mists
were floating on the river , deep,
And
Katyusha’s gone out in the gloaming,
On
the river bank so high and deep
ALYOSHA
Words by K. Vanshenkin. Music by Kolmanovsky.
Translated by Tom Botting
When
snow falls on fields and the forest,
On
fields and the forest,
When
snow falls of fields and the forest,
Or
rainstorms are lashing the land,
On
a hill in Bulgaria Aloyosha, Aloyosha , Aloyosha,
On
a hill in Bulgaria Aloyosha,
The
Russian soldier lad stands.
Our
hearts still go out to that soldier,
Go
out to that solder
Our
hearts still go out to that soldier,
As
if we still heard bullets drone.
Of
stone are his tunic and shoulders, his tunic and shoulder ,
Of
stone are his tunic and shoulder,
His
boots, too ,are carved out of stone.
How
great were the soldier lads’ losses,
In
our land their losses,
How
great were the soldier lads’ losses,
They
died and their names were not known.
But
this soldier here, our Aloyosha, Aloyosha , Aloyosha,
But this
soldier here, our Aloyosha
To
all of Bulgaria is known.
How peaceful
the valleys and bowers
The
valleys and bowers,
How
peaceful the valleys and bowers
But
there on the hill he must stay.
To
girls he can offer no flowers, can offer no flowers
To girls he can
offer no flowers,
But they bring
him flowers each day.
As dear as
the sweet breezes blowing,
The sweet
breezes blowing,
As dear as
the sunshine a-glowing,
Or a star in
the sky bright and fair,
He watches
the city below him,
The city
below him,
He watches
the city below him,
As if he had
always stood there.
---------------------------------
The Cranes
Sometimes I feel like the soldiers,
Who never returned from the bloodied fields,
Aren't perished in our earth,
But turned into white cranes
Since those long gone times until today
They fly and give us signs, so we can hear them.
Isn't this why so frequently and sorrowfully
We fall silent, watching the sky?
A tired flock is flying, flying up in the sky,
Through the fog, at the end of the day.
And among them there's a small gap,
Perhaps that's the place for me
The day will come when together with the cranes
I will float in that same blue-gray mist,
With a bird's hailing out of the heavens,
Calling on all of you, whom I've had left down on earth.
Sometimes I feel like the soldiers,
Who never returned from the bloodied fields,
Aren't perished in our earth,
But turned into white cranes
