Teacher’s notes:


Aim: to practice question formation and sports-related vocabulary


Age: 14 + Level: Intermediate + Time: 20 – 30 min



  1. Pair the students and distribute the articles accordingly. Ask each student to read his / her article and write up the questions they will have to ask if they want to fill in the missing information.


  1. Check the questions together for grammatical accuracy, and ask the students to practice in pairs asking / answering each other’s questions and thus completing the article together.


  1. Invite the students to share their opinions of this unusual sport in a group / class discussion, and ask if they know any other interesting / unusual sports from around the world.


Follow-up / extension:


  1. Group the students and ask each group to prepare a description of some sport without naming it. Once they are ready, ask the groups to take turns describing their sport for the rest of the class to guess.


  1. Organize a contest: group the students and ask each group to invent a new sport and present it to the class. Encourage the class to ask questions.

Раздаточный материал для работы в парах, 10-11 класс - учащиеся формулируют и затем задают/отвечают на вопросы партнера чтобы восполнить пропущенную информацию в своей копии статьи о необычном виде спорта. Отсюда легко перейти к игровым моментам, например описание/отгадывание вида спорта, либо творческому мини-проекту по созданию/презентации своего уникального вида спорта, и т.п. Более подробный план проведения написал по-английски в файле, источники материала для адаптации статьи там же.
