Конспект урока английского языка
Course-book/Unit/ Lesson: Vereschagina, “English” the course-book, the 3rd form, Part 2, Unit topic – The English Year, Lesson 78; the third lesson in the unit.
Aim: By the end of the lesson the children will be able to describe how Russian people and English people celebrate New Year.
Skills: Reading / Speaking
New language: Thanksgiving day, traditional American food, roast turkey, pumpkin pie, Christmas stockings, Queen’s speech, Trafalgar Square, come together.
Revision: winter, November, New Year, presents, Christmas, Christmas cards, seasons, months, holidays.
(5 min.) Warm-up. To revise the words (winter, November, New Year, presents, Christmas, holidays, months, seasons and so on.)
To show the flash cards and elicit the words. To elicit from the children the theme of the lesson (English year - holidays).
Pupils revise the words. Pupils should guess the theme of the lesson.
It is cold in… (inwert).
It comes after October (ombreNve). We celebrate it in winter. To draw the pictures of seasons on the blackboard and a puzzle (There are 4 --- in a --- ; there are 12 ---in a ---); to draw a Christmas tree.
(15 min.) Pre-stage.
To introduce the topic.
To introduce the words: Thanksgiving day, traditional American food, roast turkey, pumpkin pie, Christmas stockings, Queen’s speech, Trafalgar Square, come together.
To predict the text.
To give the instruction.
Look at the picture. What can you see? What are children doing?
It is Christmas. It is New Year. Children get presents.
Show flash cards and introduce new words.
(Compare pictures about holidays in Russia and England).
Says: you are going to read the text about English year. What will be in the text?
Explains the activity:
Read the text and put the blank sheets in sequence.
Gives out the blank sheets # 1 “New Year celebration in England” (1 set for one person).
Say what they know about New Year and Christmas.
Say the words connected with the celebration of the New Year.
Bring in flash cards.
T collects what pupils say on the board and asks them to predict the plot.
(10 min.) While-stage.
To develop reading skills:
Helps the children when it is necessary.
Read the text and put the given blank sheets in sequence.
Check that pupils know what to do.
(15 min.) Post-reading.
To check understanding.
To develop speaking.
Says: Compare your sequencing in pairs.
Show the right sequencing on the blackboard. Ask to read children their sequencing.
Provides a model.
Gives out the blank sheets #2 “New Year celebration in Russia”. (1 set for a pair).
Explains the activity: Read and put the blank sheets in sequence according your opinion.
Asks: describe how you celebrate New Year.
Asks if pupils like the text.
Asks if New Year celebrations in Russia and England are same.
See if they have the same sequencing.
Children read their sequencing.
Read and put the blank sheets in sequence.
Describe how they celebrate New Year.
Give their opinions.
Go around and see if answers are the same.
May organize new pairs.
