                             WILD AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS

Objectives:

-to revise the vocabulary;

-to develop the pupils’ listening and reading skills;

-to practice speaking in dialogues and monologues;

-to develop the logical thinking; the pupils’ creative imagination in communicative activities;

-to teach the children to work in groups and pairs;

-to develop love and  interest to English.

Materials:

Pictures of  animals, cards with tasks, texts for reading, masks of wild and domestic animals, blackboard.

LESSON PROCEDURE

1. Greetings

T. Good morning, children!

Ps. Good morning, teacher!

T. I’m glad to see you!

Ps. Glad to see you too!

T. Take your seats, please!

2. Announcing the topic and the aims of the lesson

T. Today we’ll have an unusual lesson. It is a game.

Do you like to play?

Ps. Yes, we do.

T. Today we’ll have a talk about wild and domestic animals.  We’ll have many tasks. Are you ready to learn and play?

Ps. Yes, we are.

3. Warming-up

T. Let’s start our lesson with warming-up!

Ps. My eyes can see!

      My ears can hear!

      My mouth can talk!

      Let’s begin our work.

4. Patters

T. Our first task is patters. Read them on your cards and try to pronounce them correctly.

1. Pat’s black cat is in Pat’s black hat.

2. A black cat  sat  on  a  mat. And ate a fat  rat.

3. A girl sees three big grey geese.

4. Pat keeps two pets.

5. What a big black cat!

    What a cat! What a cat!

    Ann’s cat is black.

6. Swan swam over the sea.

    Swim, swan, swim!

    Swan swam back again.

    Well swum, swan!

5. The words’ chains

 T. Children, you have to write the chains of  English words on the blackboard. You will have only one minute to do it. But at first let’s refresh our memory about names of wild and domestic animals.

So, let’s start.

Animals

Squirrel

Leopard

Dog

Goat

Tiger

Rabbit

Tortoise

Elephant, etc.

6. Puzzle

T. Now  I  want to give you  an “Animal Puzzle”.  

Badger comes out of the hole at night. At that time, he often meets other animals. What are they? If you put the words pieces together correctly in pairs, you will know the names of eight animals.

MEL, KEY, C,  HA, HOR, FO, BE, RE, X, LI, CA, AR, DON, ON, AT, SE.

Key: camel, bear, horse, cat, donkey, hare, fox, lion.

T. You are right.

7. Speaking activities

T. And now let’s organize groups of  four. ( Teacher  gives the pupils pictures of the animals and asks  the pupils  to organize the groups.)

T. Each group will prepare a description of  an animal, but does not  name it. And the members of the other group will guess the animal.

1) It lives on farms or  in houses.

 Its  black or white, grey or red.

  It has got short  or  long ears.

  It likes bones.  

 

2) It lives in forests. It is brown.

 It is fat. It has got a lot of hair on his body.

 It has got a short tail. It likes honey.

                                                                     

3) It is not big, not small.

 It likes hens and chickens.

It lives in the forest.

It is red and very cunning.

 

4) It has long ears.

 It can jump and run.

It likes carrots and cabbage.

8. Hidden words

T. Children! Look at the blackboard, please!

Only pupils, who will find hidden animals quicker then all, will be invited into the Nature Lovers’ society.

Find the hidden animals.

God (dog), noil ( lion), gerti (tiger), nomeky (monkey), omuse ( mouse), tac (cat), bezra (zebra), sohre (horse), xof (fox).

9. Physical activity

T. I see you are tired a little bit , let’s  have a rest. Imagine that you are at your gym lesson. Do some exercises, and after that we’ll continue our lesson. Stand up, please!

Can you hop like a  rabbit,

Can you jump like a  frog,

Can you walk  like a  duck,

Can you run like a  dog,

Can you fly like a  bird,

Can you swim like a  fish,

Sit down, please!

10. Oral Practice (pair work)

T. And now, we  will start the dialogue-making game.

Make your questions about animals. (dialogues )

Work in pairs, ask and answer your questions.

 I’ll give you a  few minutes to prepare. Are you ready? Who wants to act  a  dialogue out?

Well done!

11. Game “ Mistake”

T. Your next task is to find mistakes in the sentences and correct them.

1) The hare is a big animal.

2) The cat   lives in the forest.

3) The wolf likes honey.

4) The fox is a domestic animal.

5) The tiger lives on  a  farm.

6) The monkey likes bones.

7) The squirrel lives in the river.

8) The lion is a small animal.

9) The dog eats leaves and fruit.

10) The cow is a wild animal.

12. Guessing  Game

T. Listen to the riddles and name the animals.

1) This animal is big and strong. It likes honey and berries. It can run and jump. It can clime the trees. (A bear)

2) It is small and funny. It likes bananas as  bears  honey. ( A  monkey)

 3) Who carries his house with him? (A turtle)

4) It likes grass in winter-hay. It gives us milk and Milky-way. ( A cow)

5) We like this bird and call it the bird of peace. (A dove)

6) It’s usually grey, it has long ears, it has hoofs but it’s not a horse. ( A donkey)

7) This animal lives with us and likes to catch mice. ( A cat)

8) It cannot talk but it can bark. ( A dog)

9) It’s  coloured, it’s bright, it can walk, run and fly. It  cannot swim, but it can sing, usually in the morning. ( A cock)

10) This is a wild animal. It likes apples and nuts. It has got many neddles. ( A hedgehog)

 13. Reading and dramatization

T. Dear, children! I am sure all of you would like to be actors. Imagine that you are actors, let’s play! But at first read these stories than use gestures and mime to dramatize these ones.

(Pupils  are  proposed to read the stories and  to  show the plot by mean of gestures.)

                                     The Lion and the Mouse

         Once there was a big forest. The lion was the king of the forest. One day he was having his afternoon nap. A little young mouse was playing near him. She jumped on his back and the lion woke up. He caught the mouse in his paw. The mouse said to him, “Oh, please, let me go  and  I  will help you one day.” The lion let her go and said, “You are too small to help me. Go away!”

One day the lion got caught in a hunter's net. He began to cry.

The mouse heard him and came to help. She cut the net with her sharp little teeth. The lion was free and full of  joy. He said, “thank you, my little friend! You saved my life!” The smallest friend can be the strongest help.

 

                                         The Fox  in the Well

         One  day  a  red  fox  goes  for a walk. He comes to a well. He wants to drink. He doesn't  know  that  there is no water.

The Fox  looks down and falls into the well. He cannot get out of  it and begins to cry. But then he hears that some-body comes to the well. It is a goat.

The Fox is very clever and has a plan how to get out of the well.

The Goat looks down and sees the Fox.

'Hello, Mr.Fox! What are you doing there?' he asks. 'Hello, Mr.Goat.

I am having a good time here,' says the Fox.    'The grass in the well is very good.'   'Do you eat grass?' asks the Goat.  'No, I don't. But you can come down and eat it.  It is very good.'   'Oh, you are so kind. Thank you,' says the Goat. And he jumps down into the well.

Then the Fox  jumps on the Goat's  back, gets out of  the well and runs away.

T. Thank you very much! You are real actors!

14. Lesson Summary

T. Our  lesson  is coming to the end. How are you now? If you are O. K. and happy stick  a  picture  of  a bright sun on the blackboard, if you are not well and sad  stick a picture of  a dark cloud.

 I'm very pleased with your work. We have done everything that was  planned  for this lesson.   Your answers were excellent. I am happy to have such clever pupils.  You  know  a  lot  about animals.
