Procedure of the lesson:

1. Warm-up.

Good afternoon, pupils and our dear guests! At our previous lessons we spoke about animals. We know that animals are the part of that natural world. Today we`ll continue our talk about animals. So, the theme of our lesson is «Animals in our life».

2. Brainstorming. ( Приложение № 1)

Look at this poster. What animals can you see? How do you understand these words   «Everyone matters»?

Yes, you are right. Everyone matters, everyone is important. We all are parts of the whole world and every living thing is important for the further existence of our world.

3. Work on the pictures and photos of animals. ( приложение № 2)

Now look at our active board. What animals can you see here?   Name them. 

4. Work on the table. (Приложение 3)

Let`s differenciate animals into two groups. What groups are they? Name them. So, we have 2 groups:  wild and domestic. But you know that these groups divide into 5 little groups. Name them. (Mammals, birds, reptiles, farm animals and pets).

5. Work on lexis. (приложение №4)

Look at these words. Put them into three groups (habitat, characteristics and words to mean actions).

6. Mini-research work. (приложение №5)

Now, we`ll have a mini-research work. Three of your classmates prepared reports about the following animals (about a squirrel, a dolphin and an elephant). You should listen to the text attentively and fill in the required information into the chart.

7. Guess a crossword «Animals». (приложение №6)

This time I`ll describe you some animals and you should try to guess them.

·       The name of our first animal consists of 4 letters. It is big. It is a wild animal. It is brown. It likes honey and sleeps during the whole winter. It is a very lazy animal. (a bear)

·       It is a strong animal. It has a long mane, strong legs and sharp teeth. It has a yellow skin. People call it «The king of animals». It can run and hunt well. (a lion)

·       The name of the third animal consists of 9 letters. It is a wild animal. It has 4 short legs, a long and large mouth. Usually it is green. It is dangerous and bloody. It lives in water. It has a long tail. We can see it at the zoo. (a crocodile)

·       The name of the fourth animal consists of 6 letters. It is a wild animal. Usually it is brown. It has a funny face and a long tail. It can run and jump well. It likes bananas very much. We can see it at the zoo too. (a monkey)

·       The name of the following animal consists of 7 letters. It is a wild animal. It is a wild animal.  It is yellow, brown and black. It has a little head, long legs and a very, very long neck. It lives in Africa. Its long neck helps it to eat leaves from trees.   (a giraffe)

·       The name of this animal consists of 8 letters. It is a wild animal. It has 4 thick legs, a long nose and very large ears. It can swim well. Usually it lives in Africa, Asia and India. It usually stands, when it sleeps. We can see it in Indian films too. (an elephant)

·       It is a domestic animal. It is big. It has 4 strong legs and a long tail. It is a friend of man. We can ride on it and hunt with it too. (a horse)

8. Reading practice. Text «Penguins» (приложение № 7)

Read this text and try to remember its content.

Let`s speak about this wonderful animal. What animal is it? Where does it live?  What do the penguins live? Where do the y lay eggs? How long do the male penguins stand together? How do the female and male protect their baby, when the weather gets bad?

9. Poems.

Dear guests, let`s have a little rest and enjoy the reciting of poems.

Pupil 1.                   «Harry`s dog»

Harry has a little dog, such a funny fellow.

But his dog is made of wool, painted white and yellow. 

Pupil 2.                  «My Teddy»

My Teddy`s fur is soft and brown. His legs are short and fat.

He walks with me all round the town and never wears a hat.

My Teddy keeps me warm in bed. I like his furry toes.

I like his pretty darling head, his pretty little nose.

Pupil 3.                   «Kittens»

A kitten with a black nose sleeps all the day.

A kitten with a white nose is always glad to play.

A kitten with a pink nose comes when you call.

But a kitten with a grey nose I like best of all. 

10. Your home task for the next lesson is to write short essays about your favorite animals.

There are 29 species of this animal. It lives in the forests of Asia, Europe, North and South America. The length of its body is from 20 to 30 cm. Its weight is from 200 g to 1 kg. It has a long magnificent tail. This animal is fast and very beautiful, especially in winter. It is funny to watch when it easily jumps from tree to tree. They are active in summer. Some animals gather about 2000 mushrooms during one season. They eat berries, mushrooms, nuts, birds' eggs. We can see them in the city parks.

It is a large animal. Its weight is about 4 tons. Wild animals live in African and Indian jungles. Their tusks can be 3 meters long. They need a lot of water. After they have had enough to drink, they fill their trunks and spray their bodies. Leaving the water animals join small family groups resting under the trees. They rest only during the hottest part of the time. They have the biggest appetite. In fact they spend about 16 hours a day eating. Their diet consists of leaves, grass, and fruits. They are wonderful, intelligent animals. They can help people.

There are about 40 kinds of these animals. They live in seas and oceans, and even in rivers. Their weight varies from 25 to 450 kilos. They can dive 300 meters deep. Playful and curious animals like to follow ships in the sea. They hunt at night. Their food is fish. The animals are very intelligent. They can do many wonderful tricks: play basketball, take food from people's hands. There were cases when they saved people in seas.

There are eighteen different kinds of penguins, and they all live south of the equator. The largest are the emperor penguins, which live in Antarctica. The smallest penguin is the fairy penguin, or little blue. Penguins eat fish.

They lay their eggs about fifty miles from the coast. There the penguins have nothing to make a nest out of, but the eggs cannot be laid directly on the ice, or they would freeze. The emperor penguins have to take care of their eggs in a special way.

The female produces one egg. As soon as she lays her egg, the male penguin rolls it on top of his feet. A special fold of skin on the bottom of his stomach comes down over the egg to protect it from the cold. For two months the male penguins stand together to protect themselves from the cold with their eggs on their feet. They cannot move or eat.

The female goes to find food as soon as she lays her egg. Finally, after two months she returns and takes the egg from the male. The male penguin, which now has had no food for two months, returns to the sea.

After the egg is hatched, the female and the male take turns carrying the baby penguin on their feet. When the weather gets cold, the baby is covered by the fold of skin, which keeps it warm.
