Ход
урока:
I. Организационный
момент.
T: Good morning boys and girls. I’m glad to see you.
How are you? Let’s begin our lesson. Look at the blackboard.
Here are some pictures. What can you see there?
P: There is a castle and we can see men in national
costumes.
T: Where are these men and the castle?
P: I suppose they are in London. It’s the Tower of
London.
T: You are right. So, children, can you guess the
theme of our lesson?
Cl: We are going to speak about the Tower of London, the
people who work there, the Yeoman Warders.
T: Yes, you are right. We’ll also remember some grammar
rules and learn new words, learn about some old English traditions, watch a
film and do the test.
II. Речевая
зарядка.
T: But before reading the text about them I want you
to answer some of my questions. Have you ever been abroad? Have you ever been
to London?
T: Why do people travel?
P: There are different reasons for that, I believe.
Some of them travel for pleasure and there are people who go on a business
trip.
T: What way of travelling do you know?
P: Actually there are a lot of ways of travelling.
People may travel by air, by railway, by sea, by road and on foot.
T: How do you like travelling? Why?
P1: I like travelling by plane, because it’s the
fastest and the most convenient way of travelling but it’s the most expensive
one.
P2: I like travelling by train because it’s
comfortable and safe. Comfortable seats and speed make the long journey
enjoyable. And it’s not so expensive as by plane.
P3: I like travelling by ship because I can enjoy a
lot of different places of interest.
P4: I prefer travelling by car because it’s very
convenient. You needn’t reserve tickets and you have an opportunity to stop
wherever you wish. You may also spend at any place as much time as you like and
have a good time.
T: There is one more way of having a good time. It’s
hiking. What is good about hiking?
P5: It’s rather pleasant to feel nature every day.
Hiking is very popular with people who enjoy the countryside. It is really
romantic to live in tents in the forest, for example. And it’s so nice to breathe
in fresh air and enjoy the sun all day long.
III.
T: Now I know about your favourite ways of travelling.
Let’s look at the pictures and remember about some places of interest in
London. But before doing the task I want you to remember the grammar rules. Do
you remember the relative pronouns and adverbs? What do they refer to?
P: • Who/that refer to people |• Which/that
refer to thing | • Whose shows possession | •When refers to time
| • Where refers to place | • When refers to reason
T: Now do the tasks.
1) In the centre of Trafalgar Square there is a statue
of Admiral Nelson ……. defeated the French at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
2) This is Piccadilly Circus ……. is the meeting point
of six streets.
3) You can see a lot of tourists in front of the
Buckingham Palace at 10.30 …… the ceremony of changing the guard begins.
4) The Houses of Parliament, known also as the Palace
of Westminster, is the place ……. members of Parliament gather to make laws.
5) The bell Big Ben was named after the commissioner
of works Sir Benjamin Hall ….. nickname was “Big Ben”.
6) Westminster Abbey is a church …… the coronation of
all kings and queens take place. Some famous people are also buried here
7) Nobody knows the reason …. Beefeaters are called
so.
