The theme: “Is it easy to be a teenager?”


  1. To master new lexis and its use in speech, to enrich pupils’ knowledge on the theme.

  2. To practice the skill of speaking, expressing opinion after reading a text, to develop the pupils’ SRLW.

  3. To respect the relationship between relatives, friends, to teach to value life.

Methods of teaching: critical thinking, game, discussion, group work, pair work

Aids: flipcharts, pictures, cards, posters, an interactive board, video.

The procedure of the lesson

  1. Organization moment

  1. Greeting

T: - Good day, children! I’m glad to see you at our lesson of the English language.

  1. Saying compliments

T: - My dears, you know that people must be polite to each other. So, let’s start with saying compliments. Now let’s make a circle and greet each other.

(P - P)

T:- Take your seats, please.

  1. Checking up the home task.

T: - And now children, what was your home task for today? Your home task was to write a conversation about your problems. (Pupils speak on each problem).

P1, P2,…..

T: - Thank you very much for your interesting conversation.

  1. Targeting

T: - Please, look at the active board and be ready to answer my questions.

  • Is the person happy?

  • Why do you think he isn’t happy?

  • What problems has he got?

  • Is it easy to be young?

  • You are right. It is not easy to be young because teenagers today have a lot of problems.

T: - Young people face a lot of problems which are very important for them. Everybody of you is a teenager, what problems do you have in your daily life?




  1. Presentation of the new theme.

T: - OK. Today at our lesson we’ll try to discuss the topic Is it easy or difficult to be young? So we’ll have to speak about good and bad sides of being young too. In another words we are going to speak about ups and downs of the age. But at first let’s try to give the definition of the word “teenager”. Officially a teenager is anyone aged 13 to 19 inclusive. Youth is a very important period in the life of a man. Of course, there are different kinds of problems.

T: - My dears, we need to study the new words from the text. Look at the active board and repeat after me.

T: - Remember, every difficult situation has a solution. Some ways to help yourself in troubles. As you see, there is a paper on your desks where you have to fulfill it during our lesson with the words, word combinations about teenage problems and at the end of the lesson we’ll return to this question and try to give advice how to overcome difficulties.

1 – Do you and your parents listen to the same music?

2 – Do you like the way your parents treat you? Why?

3- Do you yourself buy things for you or your parents do?

4 – Are your school teachers strict or lenient?

5 – What kind of teachers do you like? Why?

6 – Does your father or mother get angry when you use the

telephone for more than two, three minutes? And why?

Rules of Colin’s family. (Read the rules and tick those rules which are the same in your family).

  • You must be on time for meals.

  • You must come home before 11 o’clock.

  • You’re not allowed to play loud music in your room/

  • You mustn’t have friends in your room.

  • You mustn’t use the telephone without permission.

  • You must have a shower every morning.

  • You mustn’t smoke.

  • You must get good marks at school.

T: - All families have rules. What rules does your family have? Work in groups. Make up a poster and present it. Look at the board and use phrases.

  • What do your parents make you?

  • What do your parents forbid you?

T: - At the beginning of the lesson I gave you a sheet of paper “Research apron”. Whose work is ready? Read them aloud. Which advice do you like best? Is it useful or useless?

T: - Now, our lesson is going to over. I hope the lesson was interesting and useful for you. We have discussed very serious problems. Do you think we have achieved our goals? Have you understood everything at the lesson? What have you learnt today? You see the “Shoulder bag” on the board. Now you have to write if you liked the lesson and what you liked best of all on the stickers.
