Topic: Travelling to Ukraine.


Objectives:


  • to provide pupils with practice in speaking comprehension;

  • to encourage them to use new vocabulary;

  • to develop pupils’ reading, listening and writing skills through various creative activities, project work;

  • to form pupils’ ability of using their imagination while discussing different situations;

  • to broaden pupils’ knowledge about Ukraine.


Equipment:

a textbook by O. Karpyuk, a tape – recorder, a map of Ukraine, pictures, cards.

Teacher: You are right. Thank you. And today we’ll make a journey. We are going to travel to Ukraine. We’ll learn new words, speak about Ukraine, its cities, make excursion around the city, sing a song. I hope you will like our travelling very much.

But, children, when people want to travel they need a lot of information: some information about country they want to visit, its cities, people, culture, life and so on.

Teacher: Say what Ukrainian regions do you know?

Teacher: Make groups of four. Children, there are many tour agencies nowadays. They propose tours in different regions of our country. Imagine you are representatives. Use Ex. 2, p. 152 as an example (Дивись Додаток 1).

In Kyiv the day is warm, bright and sunny, in the Crimea it is very warm, it is 20 degrees above zero in the sea, it is windy in the Carpathians. But never mind: Everything is good in its season. Wish you enjoyable weekends. You can listen to the weather forecast using your mobile phones. Our number is 388.

Guide 1, Neznayka. Hello, ladies and gentlemen. We welcome you to Sevastopol. Sevastopol is one of the richest cities in our country.

Guide 2, Znayka. Sevastopol is a Hero – city of a special administrative status. It is a large seaport and a naval base.

Guide 1, Neznayka. Sevastopol (Glorious) was founded in 1783 as a naval fortification of Akhtiar. It got its present name in 1784.

Guide 2, Znayka. Sevastopol is famous for 349 – day defense of 1854 – 55 and the heroic defense in 1941 – 42.

Guide 1, Neznayka. The city boasts of its museums, the Historical Reserve of Chersonesus, the Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Panorama ”Defence of Sevastopol in 1854 – 55”, the diorama “Assaulting the Sapun Mount on May 7, 1945”.
