TEACHER: First we invite you to watch the video film “The Nature of Primorye”. It is presented by the students from the 11th grade - Ksenya Albekova and Olga Pogodina. Please look at the List of words from the film and repeat them after me.

PRIMORYE
1. The nature of this part of the Far East is especially peculiar.
2. The famous Usury taiga has been preserved here.
3. It contains remarkable forests, impassable thickset, for example, lianas round the huge trees, actinide and Amour grapes.
4. In the Usury taiga some southern and northern types of plants grow without interfering with each other.
5. Grasses are thick, high and various.
6. You can see a lot of rare plants and trees here.
7. One of them is the Far Eastern cedar.
8. The world famous ginseng is a unique plant.
9. Many types of grass are in blossom.
10. Lots of birds, insects and animals find shelter and the cover in the forest.
11. Here you can meet various snakes, tiger and Japanese grass snakes and brumes.
12. In the heart of the ancient taiga there are the hunting territories of the Usury tiger.
13. This big beast attacks wild bears, noble roes and spotted deer.
14. Different berries, cedar and mandjurian nuts are the favourite food of the bears.
15. This unique fauna is carefully protected.
16. Once the academician Komarov called the Far East the pre-ocean world because the Far East and the ocean are inseparable.
17. The borders of the Far Eastern seas stretch for thousands of kilometers.
18. Well equipped vessels and fishing ships are always floating through the Far Eastern seas.
19. Coastal waters, rich in fish including salmon, sea organisms and animals, such as trepans, crab, shellfish, mollusks, sea urchin and others is an ideal place for developing fishing industry.
20. The sea preserve has been set up in our country.
21. It is a great bay.
22. The sea fauna and flora represented here are especially rich.
23. Trepan is a commercial species, it is reliably protected and preserved.
24. There are many other sea inhabitants here such as the crab.
25. In the sea bay they bread the Japanese scallop.
26. Primorye is a region of large sea ports.
27. One of them is Vladivostok.
28. It’s a country’s gate into the Pacific Ocean.
29. All year round work is going on in a commercial, fish and passenger ports.
30. Vladivostok is a city of sailors, geologists, builders, scientists and students.

VLADIVOSTOK
Vladivostok is one of the most interesting and colourful cities in Russia. It was founded on the 2nd of July in 1860 by a group of Russian seamen. The city occupies the southern part of the Muravyov – Amursky Peninsula. Vladivostok is washed by two gulfs: the Amursky Gulf and Ussuriysky Gulf. So the city is open to the ocean winds. The “spirit” of Vladivostok is its unusual landscape. The buildings are placed on the slopes of the hills. You can observe half of the city from any point of the hills.
Vladivostok is a capital and the largest city of Primorye. The population of Vladivostok is more than half a million. The central street of the city is Svetlanskaya. It also was the first street in Vladivostok. Many historical buildings, museums, monuments and central shops are located in the street.
Vladivostok is a city of students and scientists. There are nine Higher Educational Institutions in Vladivostok. Among them are the Far Eastern State Technical University, the Far eastern National University, Vladivostok State Medical University and many others.
Vladivostok is one of the largest seaports in the Far East. We also call it a city of seamen and fishermen. Ships registered with Vladivostok call at more than 250 different ports all over the world. To Japan they carry coal and timber, to India machinery and equipment. They can be seen at the shores of France, Egypt, the North and South America.
Vladivostok is a modern industrial city with the diverse industries. producing mining equipment, conveyers, pumps, steel industries and so on.
Vladivostok is the official center of Primorye’s culture and art. Krai unions of writers, artists, men of music and journalists, Far Eastern State Institute of Arts are located here. Also there are many theatres, picture galleries and museums in Vladivostok.

My native town is Dalnegorsk

Dalnegorsk is situated in the heart of Ussuriskaya taiga. It is surrounded with the Sikhote Alin mountains.
