TRACTORS

Tractors occupy an important place on the farm as a source of power. On many farms they, together with trucks or trailers, have entirely displaced horses for farm work. An advantage of t factors power over the horse is that tractor can be used continuously for heavy work. In addition to pulling implements like ploughs and cultivators, a tractor may be used with implements for bush-cleaning, ditch-filling (засыпка канав) and land-levelling (выравнивание). Small tractors from 1 to 10 horse-power, fitted

with single- or iwin cylinder petrol engines, may he used for garden and orchard work.

Farm tractors may be divided into two groups: wheeled and track-laying. Wheeled tractors may be further subdivided into standard and row-crop (пропашная культура) types. Standard wheeled tractors are used for general farm work and do not have the special features associated with row-crop tractors. Row-crop tractors can be used for all ordinary purposes, but in addition they are specially designed for working on root and other row crops.

Track-laying tractors or crawlers have the great advantage that they can be used for heavy loads (грузы) on almost any class of land. They are considerably more economical in fuel than are wheel machines, but their greater initial cost and their maintenance, particularly that of the tracks, may outweigh (перевесить) this advantage. The crawler is, however, the more efficient type of tractor and, moreover, can go on the land earlier after rain and so can work a greater number of days per year.

Easy chocolate cake

Perfect for birthdays, this is a great recipe for an easy, foolproof chocolate cake. It’s moist and fudgy and will keep well for 4-5 days.

Ingredients

Preparation method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Grease and line two 20cm/8in sandwich tins.

  2. For the cake, place all of the cake ingredients, except the boiling water, into a large mixing bowl. Using a wooden spoon, or electric whisk, beat the mixture until smooth and well combined.

  3. Add the boiling water to the mixture, a little at a time, until smooth. (The cake mixture will now be very liquid.)

  4. Divide the cake batter between the sandwich tins and bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes, or until the top is firm to the touch and a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.

  5. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow to cool completely, still in their tins, before icing.

  6. For the chocolate icing, heat the chocolate and cream in a saucepan over a low heat until the chocolate melts. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk the mixture until smooth, glossy and thickened. Set aside to cool for 1-2 hours, or until thick enough to spread over the cake.

  7. To assemble the cake, run a round-bladed knife around the inside of the cake tins to loosen the cakes. Carefully remove the cakes from the tins.

  8. Spread a little chocolate icing over the top of one of the chocolate cakes, then carefully top with the other cake.

  9. Transfer the cake to a serving plate and ice the cake all over with the chocolate icing, using a palette knife.

Deafness Does Not Mean Defeat

When Linda Medleau was in the fourth grade, she had difficulty in spelling class. The problem was not that she misspelled words. When Linda was asked to spell a word, she sometimes spelled a different word-one that rhymed with the word the teacher asked for. The teacher realized Linda had a hearing problem. Tests showed that Linda was 70 percent deaf. Linda had been lip-reading all her life.

At first Linda was embarrassed. She did not what anyone to know that she was hard of hearing. Gradually, she adjusted to her disability. Linda learned to lip-read better. Later she got hearing aids that helped her determine the direction from which sounds came. Her parents did not treat her as though she was different. When Linda said she wanted to be a veterinarian, they encouraged her.

In college, Linda’s hearing disability posed some problems. Teachers might turn their backs to the class and then Linda could not read their lips. In large classes the professor might be too distant for her hearing aids to help much. Throughout college a special friend shared her class notes with Linda. Teachers and other friends offered advice and encouragement.

Many people helped Linda overcome the obstacles that deafness presented. Linda feels that teachers, classmates, and her clients have accepted her hearing problem quite easily. To improve communication, Linda still takes lip-reading lessons each week and now has new, more powerful hearing aids.

In 1979, Linda graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State University. After college, Dr. Linda Medleau began working as an intern in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University.

To become a veterinarian, a person needs at least two years of preveterinary college education. Many students complete three or four years of college of veterinary medicine. There they spend three to four years studying much science. They learn about anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, and more. After graduation from the college of veterinary medicine, the students become doctors of veterinary medicine (D.V.M.). They must obtain a government license to practice their profession. Then they may work in private practice, at zoos, in government, or at colleges like Linda.

Culinary Characteristics

Fresh Cabbage Shchee (for four liters)

Beef or pork - one kilo with bone

Fresh cabbage - one kilo

Brown onions - 150 grams

Fresh tomatoes - 2 pieces or one spoonful of tomato paste

Root celery - one piece

Root parsley - one piece

Bay leaf - two pieces

Some dill and spring onions

Salt (to taste)

Water - four liters

The meat is boiled till it's half ready (for an hour or two). Then you put shredded fresh cabbage. Sliced brown onions, carrots, tomatoes, root celery and parsley are fried for twenty - twenty-five minutes in the frying-pan and put in the saucepan. Bay leaf is put at the end of cooking and should be taken away after shchee is ready. Shchee is served with sour cream, cut small spring onions and dill. Cooking-time - about three hours.

Ukrainian Borshch

It can be cooked from beef, pork or poultry - chicken, goose, rabbit or hare.

Meat or poultry - 1 kg

Beetroot -1 piece (medium size)

Sweet pepper -1-2 pieces

Cabbage - 500 gr

Potatoes - 2 pieces

Tomatoes - 3 - 4 pieces

Brown onions - 1 piece

Root parsley-2 pieces

Lard-40 gr

Lemon acid - at the tip of the knife

Bay leaf, some pepper, salt to taste.

The meat or poultry is boiled till it's half-ready. Sliced beetroot is stewed in the stew-pan with the fat from the broth till it's half-ready. Shredded carrots, brown onions and root parsley are slightly fried in the frying-pan (separately from the beetroot). Beetroot should be stewed, carrots and onions fried. The broth is set with shredded cabbage and potatoes and simmered for ten - fifteen minutes. Tomatoes are peeled, sliced and fried for ten minutes separately. Stewed beetroot, fried carrots, onions, root parsley, tomatoes spices, citric acid, sliced sweet pepper and pounded lard are put in the saucepan and simmered for ten-fifteen minutes. Some housewives put a handful of kidney-beans with meat at the beginning of cooking. In this case you should put only one potato. You can boil it whole and mash at the end of cooking. Ukrainian borshch is served with thick sour cream, greens and dumplings (galushki or pampushki).

Okroshka

(four - five portions) Kvas - 1 litre

New cucumber(s) - 1 of medium size

Spring onions - 100 gr

Hard-boiled eggs - 2

Boiled beef- 100 gr or boiled sausage/sausages

Lean ham - 50 gr

Spring onions and cucumber(s) are washed and sliced. So is boiled beef and ham. Hard-boiled eggs are cut large. All this is put in the kvas, salted to taste. It's better to have kvas sour. If it's sweet you can put a slice of lemon or citric acid at the tip of the knife. In home-made cooking a potato (boiled and cut) is added. Before serving okroshka it's recommended to keep it in a cool place or refrigerator for two hours. Okroshka is served with thick sour cream, cut parsley and dill. If it's too thick you should add some more kvas.

Components of the Automobile

The automobile is made up of three basic parts: the power plant, or the engine, the chassis and the body.

The engine is the source of power that makes the wheels rotate and the car move. It includes fuel, cooling, lubricating and electric systems. Most automobile engines have six or eight cylinders

The chassis includes a power train (power transmission), a running gear, steering and braking systems as well.

The power train carries the power from the engine to the car wheels.

The power transmission, in turn, contains the clutch, gearbox, propeller or cardan shaft, final drive, differential, rear axle and axle shafts. The running gear consists of a frame with axles, wheels and springs.

The body has a hood, fenders and accessories: the heater, stereo tape recorder, windshield wipers, conditioner, speedometer and so on.

к уроку по проблеме: «Наш аграрно – технологический техникум»


Цель: совершенствование коммуникативных умений студентов по проблеме: «Наш аграрно – технологический техникум».

Задачи: воспитание чувства гордости за выбранную профессию, свое учебное заведение, свой регион;

активизация лексических навыков по проблеме: ««Наш аграрно – технологический техникум», навыков использования словарей;

совершенствование навыков осознанного употребления в речи форм страдательного залога, активного использования в речи лексических единиц со словообразовательным суффиксом –ing; ,

автоматизация, безошибочность построения высказывания на английском языке в соответствии с нормами языка и оптимальной скоростью выполнения;

совершенствование навыков чтения с пониманием общего содержания текста, чтения с целью извлечения конкретной информации;

ознакомление студентов с социокультурной информацией о некоторых профессиях и специальностях;

развитие умения использовать приобретенные знания в практической и профессиональной деятельности;

развитие умения создавать словесный социокультурный портрет своего учебного заведения, своей профессии;

совершенствование способности к догадке, умения анализировать, сравнивать, вычленять из текста профессионально значимую информацию, находить на сайтах презентации, содержащие нужный материал и предъявлять его студентам.

Ход урока:

Is not by chance that I entered the Agrarian Technological Technical School in the village of Kachcan near Shakhty. My parents have a small garden and we work there from spring till autumn. After leaving school I didn't hesitate about the choice of my future profession. I decided to be a specialist in agricultural machinery.

Our Аgrarian Technological Technical School is rather old (it was founded in 1906) and has already got its own history, customs and traditions. You will learn many interesting things about our University if you visit the Technical Museum.

Some 600 young people get their education here. There are 3 faculties at our Technical School: the Faculty of Agricultural Machinery, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Technological Faculty and Auto Mechanical Department.

Our Technical School trains students to work as a driver, a tractor-driver, a veterinary surgeon (assistant), a cook and a confectioner.

We study a lot of subjects necessary for our future work - maths, history, foreign languages, chemistry, physics, biology, botany, soil science, field-crop cultivation, agricultural chemistry, financial planning, law, agricultural ecology and many other specialized subjects. Our future work will require special professional skills to operate modern equipment. So, such subjects as electronic computers, biochemistry and biophysics become very important. At the tutorials and seminars we learn how to use the acquired knowledge in our future practical work. Every year
we write our course-papers.

The teaching combines lectures, practical classes and seminars. We have 3 or 4 classes every day. The students have got rather favorable conditions for studies here: lecture-halls, some compu­ter rooms, 2 gyms, a stadium, 2 canteens, 2 reading halls are at their disposal. The students of our Technical live at the comforta­ble hostel or rent rooms in town.

It's a hard job to be a student!

Agricultural machinery.
My profession is my pride!

In order to combine correctly the theoretical and practical education of the future specialists, about one-third of the training period is devoted to educational and training practice on the experimental farms of the Technical School. The students placed into an atmosphere of agricultural reality.

Our agricultural implements and machines

Agricultural implements and machines are now very numerous and may be divided into five main groups:

  1. prime movers, i. e. engines of all kinds, tractors, etc.

  2. cultivating machinery, including ploughs of all kinds harrows, rollers, manure-distributors, drills, etc.

  3. harvesting machinery, including mowers, self-binders, threshing-machines, elevators, potato-diggers, etc.

4) stationary or barn machinery, including such food-preparing machines as chaff-cutlers, grinding-mills. root-cutters, etc.

5) dairy machinery, including milking-machines, separators, sterilizing-machines, etc.

Much attention is paid to acquiring practical skills by future specialists.


After graduating from the Technical School our students go to work to different parts of our country not only as a driver and tractor-driver. Their work will include such activities as:

  • organization of crop production;

  • production, financing and marketing food products;

  • working out the fertilizer application systems and plant protection
    measures;

  • increasing the total number of farm livestock;

  • the control of farm pollution and everyday control of farm animals
    diseases and many other things.

Car mechanic.

Тhe profession of the mechanic is very popular and very demanded.

Our Technical School trains students to work as a mechanic. In the present world of technological progress, the profession of the mechanic has broad specialization and therefore it is very popular and very demanded. 

Data on the first mechanics appeared approximately in the 18th century, in the countries in which there was a transport capable to independent movement. Since then, transport constantly was improved and changed. Repair and leaving therefore there was a need for specially trained masters was necessary to any mechanism. So there was a profession of the mechanic.

By means of specialized diagnostics workers carry out servicing and car repairs.

To work as the mechanic it is necessary to possess certain skills: endurance, physical force, good sight and correct coordination of movements.

Nowadays learning English can be very useful in repairing many types of modern cars because in our age of technology everything is based on computer. Almost every driver once in his life watching work of  a mechanic saw a process of finding faults in electronic system of his "dear car"  and no need to say how important for a master to find quickly what is wrong Of course all this is impossible without finding out new information and learning English

Veterinary medicine
I want to be a veterinarian!


Our Technical School trains students to work as a veterinary surgeon (assistant). In spite of the swift progress in all branches of science and technology agriculture remains the main source of providing the population with food.

Intensifications of animal husbandry – better feeding and selection, introduction of the achievements of science and advanced methods, and greater mechanization – ensures a constant increase in the output of animal products.

During their practice students are busy with feeding and breeding farm animals.

The veterinarian must know the rules and regulations designed to conserve animal life and to safeguard the public health. The work in which he may be engaged is the following:

- Consultation regarding problems of animal health and diseases.

- Hospitalization of sick and injured animals.

- Vaccination of animals.

- Inspection of food supplies of animal origin to prevent the transmission of animal diseases to man.

What you need to become a good cook? First of all – talent!

How many dishes known to mankind? Ten thousand? Twenty? Count it still could not be anyone. It's also impossible. After all, how many dishes can be prepared from ordinary potatoes, if you approach it creatively? Can a chef to work without imagination, to be uncreative person?

Profession chef controls the quality of the products and the process of cooking, operation and maintenance of kitchen equipment, as well as engaged in light of consumable material.
