Aims: - to revise / introduce lexis to describe events;

  • to provide practice in reading and listening for specific information;

  • to revise Modals Verbs and enable the students to give advice;

  • to teach the students to plan their work;

  • to encourage students to share opinions and solve problems working in pairs and groups.

Aids and materials: Student’s book p. 48; whiteboard; computer; cards.

I got a letter yesterday from my friend Tatiana

Dear Natalia,

Hi! How are you? Thanks for your letter, it was nice to hear from you again. I’m far away from Moscow and I’m writing this letter to ask you for help.

I have to write a script for a film for schoolchildren about an American feast. As far as I remember, it’s based on the historic event all Americans know about, something about the Mayflower, the Pilgrims, the place they settled, their survival and the harvest they grew in the fall of… don’t remember the year.

Could you please help me with the history of the feast, the tradition of its celebration, the food they celebrate with?

Well, I’d better go now as I have some work to do. Write back soon!
