Immigration existed during the whole history of humanity. In ancient times tribes roamed in search of new pastures for their livestock, new places for hunting and fishing. Today migration still takes place in the world, people are forced to change their places of living due to different natural and man-made calamities. So migration is the process which takes place when an individual or a group leaves one country for another with the intention to settle permanently down in that country.

There are many reasons which make people leave their homes and move to other places. Economic reasons have always been among the main reasons for migration. Life in poverty and lack of employment, financial hardships often forces people to search a better life. People move to industrialized countries in order to have stable earnings, better employment opportunities and higher standards of living.  Many people migrate because of temperature; wars; diseases or natural catastrophes; here we can mention a current situation in Japan – natural disasters have forced thousands of people leave their native country in search of security. Some people change their place of living in search of political freedom; it can be migration towards political liberty and political rights or escape from government persecution. It also makes sense to name ethnic and religious reasons. Ethnic conflicts in some countries and religious intolerance often force people to look for protection in other countries.

After immigration people receive more opportunities for education and self-realization at work, better life standards, security and confidence in their future, more social and health benefits, better housing conditions etc. There are cases when people migrate to reunite families, to marry and build up new families or to start business in another country. Pretty often immigration causes dissatisfaction of native citizens: it leads to racism, increased antagonism, demographic problems, the brain drain, increased water, air, soil pollution and other social problems.

People will change their places of living as long as there is an economic gap between developed and undeveloped countries, as long as wars and ethnic conflicts exist, as long as people suffer from famine and starvation, as long as religious persecution takes place in the world. I’m definitely sure that if the humanity wants to solve the problem of illegal immigration, first of all we need to apply all the efforts on solution of the problems which cause migration. I’m definitely sure that as soon as we do it, percentage of illegal immigration will decline by itself.

Урок систематизации и обобщения знаний по циклу  "  Нет лучше места, чем дом./ В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше  " для учащихся 10 класса общественно-гуманитарного направления с углубленным изучением английского языка по учебнику Headway Upper-Intermediate.

Тип урока: Урок систематизации и обобщения знаний.

Урок с применением ИКТ.

Тема урока: People Who Emigrate. ” - " Люди, которые эмигрируют" (Заключительное занятие по циклу "Нет лучше места, чем дом ").

Цель:

  • систематизировать и обобщить знания учащихся по теме "Нет лучше места, чем дом " и пропагандировать воспитание любви к родному краю.

Задачи урока:

Образовательные:

  • Формирование коммуникативных навыков (аудирование, чтение, говорение).

  • Расширение лексического  запаса по теме "Нет лучше места, чем дом" на основе полученной информации.

  • Совершенствование речевых (монологических) навыков связной речи.

Развивающие.

  • Развитие умений работать в парах и группах

  • Развитие умений выделять главное, развитие мышления, памяти

  • Развитие умений высказывать свою точку зрения по проблеме.


Воспитательные.

  • воспитание отрицательного отношения к нарушению прав человека.

  • воспитание любви к родному краю;

  • воспитывать гражданина, любящего своё Отечество, свой дом, в котором живёт и учится.

Оборудование и материалы к уроку: компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, видео-материал, презентации в Power Point, распечатки для групповой работы, карточки для индивидуальной работы.

Предварительная подготовка:  учащимся было дано задание 1).выучить выражения, 2) приготовить короткое выступление для ролевой игры, 3) приготовить презентации.

Продолжительность:  45 минут.




Lesson Plan.

The theme: People Who Emigrate.

The aim: to develop students’ habits of oral speech on the base of the text;

to teach Ss to work in groups, to express their own view points on the

given topic;

to enrich students’ geographical outlook.

Equipment: Student’s books, multimedia project, a computer, a video material, Power Point presentations, workouts.

Outline:

I. Preliminaries: Teacher: Good morning, dear friends! Today we are going to talk about emigration.

II. Warm up:

A. Brainstorming. First of all I want to know about your associations with the word “emigration”.

(Students tell about their associations and they сan be:

1. another (foreign) country

2. other different cultures

3. another language

4. an unusual place

5. a new unknown life

6. different climate, weather

7. other customs and traditions

8. difficulties with laws and rules

9. not understanding or conflicts with people

10. other people

11. another way of life etc.)

III. Pre-task.

Teacher: And now close your eyes and think about your country – Kazakhstan. What would you miss most about it, if you went to live abroad?

(Listening to the Kazakh music students close their eyes and reply. Answers might be: home, parents, friends, relatives, neighbours, native land, weather, climate, city or village, school, national food, etc.)

IV. Presentation.

A. Teacher: Listen to a dialogue ( 6-minuteEnglish-Living abroad) and be ready to do the tasks in two groups:

Group 1: find out the meanings of the expressions “britpack” and “likeminded people”. 

Group 2: find out what advice the man would have for people thinking about moving abroad.


B. Teacher: Listen and watch Laura’s presentation “Why People Migrate?” and do the following tasks:

Group 1:

Give reasons why people emigrate.

Group 2:

Name the consequences of emigration .


C. Vocabulary. Teacher: Let’s work a bit on vocabulary. (Teacher distributes the workouts for group work). You are given 2 minutes for preparation.

C. Situations: On the part of the main characters tell us your story, your feelings, if you are satisfied with your present life or not…

Student 1. You are Andy

Do you think that you’ve made the right decision and changed your life emigrating to a new country?

Student 2. You are Marion

compare your life in Birmingham and in Alberta. Were you happy in GB or are you enjoying your life in Canada?

Student 3. You are Barry

Are you sure that you like your life in Greece? What would you say if your wife asked you to return to GB?

Student 4. You are Hazel

Are you sorry that you’ve moved to Greece? Why/why not?


D. Teacher: Watch a video Irish Jobs - Emigrating couple

and speak about advantages and disadvantages of emigrating.

V. Wrap up.

A. Teacher: Before making a conclusion I want you to watch one more presentation - it’s Marsel’s. Listen to him and watch his presentation. Do you agree with Marsel? (Some students may agree, but others may not.)

What do you think of the proverb “East or West Home Is Best”? (Students express their own view points.)

B. Teacher: Let’s make a conclusion: Our country has invested a lot of money in training and education of young people at home and abroad. We have good schools and good universities. Everything depends on us. We can change our priorities in the social and political system and start a real change for better life. We can’t force people to stay in our country, but we can build the country that people will want to live in.

VII. Homework: Would you emigrate if you had a chance? Why/Why not? Where to if you emigrated? (your reflections).
