I can read it twice. It’s the real thing.

This is a great book. I’d recommend it to you.

    The book is totally brilliant.

It’s the sort of book I like.

I can’t put it down until I’m finished.

    What rubbish!

    What a bore! I couldn’t read it.

  • 3. These are extracts from very famous books. Match them with the covers of the books. Say if you’ve read them.

    a) The sheriff of Nottingham wanted to kill him. He sent his soldiers to Sherwood Forest many times, but they could not catch him. Then the sheriff decided to organize a shooting competition in the town. “He will come and take part in the competition and we shall catch him. (Robin Good and the Sheriff)

    b) “I was cook once on a ship which came here to get water,” Long John Silver said to Jim.

But Jim was not happy. He was afraid of Long John and the other pirates. The pirates wanted to kill the six men and the boy, to find the map, get the treasure, and then sail home.

When they came to the island Jim jumped ashore and ran into the woods. (“The Treasure of Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson)

    c) One day when he came back from the visit to his friend, he saw the children playing in the garden.

“What are you doing here?” he cried angrily, and the children ran away.

“My own is my own garden and nobody will play in it.” So he built a high wall all round it. (“The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde)

    d) We took a map and discussed our plans. At the end of the evening we decided to start on Saturday. We continued to discuss the plans for some evenings. On Friday we met and began to pack. We put all our things on the floor in the middle of the room. Then we brought a large bag for clothes and two big baskets for food and dishes. Then we sat down and looked at the things. (“Three Men in a Boat” by Jerome K. Jerome)
