My visit to Yekaterinburg Kulikova Olga Khanty-Mansiysk September-October 2013
Yekaterinburg is the fourth-largest city in Russia. It's population is above1,400,000 people.
This city is the main industrial and cultural centre of the Ural Federal District.
Yekaterinburg was founded in 1723 by Vasily Tatishchev and named after Tsar Peter the Great 's wife Yekaterina.
It was one of Russia's first industrial cities. During the 1930s the famous Uralmash was built and Yekaterinburg became the center of heavy industry.
There are many old buildings in the city where the workers of the factory URALMASH lived.
But Ekaterinburg has also a lot of modern buildings (among them a 54-storeyed Business Center Vysotsky which is the tallest skyscraper in Russia outside of Moscow).
The city was built with extensive use of iron, there are many figures made of iron here which are about love and improve your mood.
The Pushkin monument
Many historical buildings are made of expensive stone such as the Rastorguev-Kharitonov Estate.
Many buildings have interesting architecture (for example, the Sevastyanov's house)
There are many other attractions in the city: among them the Kharitonov park with a quiet pond and a lovely rotunda.
You сan also see the old railway station (now it is a museum)
The Opera House building
The Puppet Theatre
The Ural State University (URGU).
There is a monument to the first Russan president in Yekaterinburg:
The heart of Ekaterinburg is formed by a Dam or so-called "Plotinka"
The Church on the Blood
The Church on the Blood was built on the place where on July 17, 1918 the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and his family— the Empress Alexandra, the Grand Prince Alexei, the Grand Princesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia, and their faithful servants were murdered.
The bodies of the Royal family members were secretly transported to Ganina Yama and thrown into the pit. The remains of the Tsar, his wife, and their three other daughters were found near Yekaterinburg in 1991 and the remains of two more children of Russia's last Tsar were discovered only in 2007.
Seven chapels were later constructed in Ganina Yama (one for each member of the royal family).
Many tourists arrive to the city's International Airport and the railway station to watch the sights.
A lot of tram, bus, trolleybus, Marshrutka routes and Yekaterinburg Metro will help you meet the city.
Welcome to the city! It's worth visiting!
