Theme: “Music in our Life” Form: 7

Teacher: Pankovskaya I. V. Date: 13.02.14


Objectives:

  • To develop pupil’s speaking skills through interactive methods (group work);

  • To broaden pupil’s knowledge of the topic Music;

  • To practice pupil’s reading skills;

  • Revising grammatical points (The Present Simple Tense, Degrees of Comparison of Adjective);

  • Use vocabulary on the topic;

  • To develop and broaden pupil’s outlook;

  • To practice pupil’s writing skills.

Equipment:

  • Handouts with tasks;

  • Power Point Presentations;

  • Computer.

PROCEDURE

  1. GREETINGS

  • Teacher: Hello, dear boys and girls! I’m glad to see you in a good mood! Everybody looks wonderful today. Are you ready to work?

  • Pl.:…

  • Teacher: Let’s start. Don’t forget that I’m going to evaluate your work during the lesson. At the end we’ll sum up all your results. Work as hard as you can. Today we are continuing to speak about Music in our life

The tree of expectations”

  • Teacher: Have you noticed the apples on you desks? These apples are from the tree of expectations. Take them and write what you expect to do during the lesson. What would you like to do?

  • Pl.:…


II. WARMING-UP. BRAINSTORMING

  • Teacher: For the first activity I would like to play a game “Pleasant Word” with you. Wish something pleasant to your mates for today!

  • Pl. 1:I wish you….

  • Teacher: Excellent! Today we are going to work in two groups! Now, take please cards from the box and take your sits according to your card.




III. MAIN PART

        1. Teacher: Our first activity is to write one or two adjectives per type of music. You can use the adjectives more than one time. You have 2 minutes (Handout 1).

Teacher: Time is up, we are going to check!

        1. Teacher: Next task is to write sentences about types of music using comparatives and superlatives (3 sentences). You have 3 minutes. For each correct sentence you get 1 point. (Handout 2).

Teacher: Time is up, please read your sentences!

        1. Teacher: Our next task is very creative. Listen to the following pieces of music. What does the music reminds you of? Draw one picture per musical piece in each square.

After that you are going to write a story using the four pictures. 3 minutes for you (Handout3).

        1. Relaxation.

Teacher: Children, I think you are tied, and I suggest you to have some a rest. Do you want to relax?

Sit comfortably. Close your eyes.Breathe in. Breathe out.Let’s pretend its summer. You are lying on a sandy beach. The weather is fine. The light wind is blowing from the sea. The birds are singing. You have no troubles. No serious problems. You are quiet. Your brain relaxes. There is calm in your body. Nothing diverts your attention. You are relaxing. Your troubles float away. You love your parents, your school, and your friends. They love you too. Learn to appreciate every good thing. The Earth is full of wonders. You can do anything. You are sure of yourself, that you have much energy. You are in good spirits. Open your eyes. How do you feel?

Teacher: Are you good in spirits? What do you think about our relaxations?

5. Teacher: Now, my dears, we are going listen to the song, and make different activities. Be attentive! While listening you should put words into right order, choose the right word, and complete sentences (Handout 4).

IV.SUMMING – UP.

  • Teacher: Let’s count your scores and find who the winner is today? Great my congratulations. Tell me please, is music important in our life? Why? Explain, please.

Hi all, this a really nice activity I use to motivate my students to write an original and interesting story using musical ideas. All you need is pick four different musical pieces. You might want to choose four totally different music genres to prompt your students imagination. Play the pieces once at a time and ask your students to draw a picture of whatever comes to their minds when listening to the song. I usually ask my students to draw one picture and then pass his/her sheet to the person next to them, so in the end they get four pictures drawn by four of their classmates. Then, I ask them to write a story using the pictures they got. You may focus on any grammatical structure you may be studying at the moment. Here's the worksheet. I hope you enjoy this activity.
