the music and pointing to the topic of the lesson on the blackboard «My favourite
musical styles of British and American music».
-Good afternoon dear
pupils and parents! Glad to see you at our unusual lesson. As you `ve already guessed
today we`re going to talk about your favourite musical genres and styles. And
at the end of our lesson you `ll have a small quiz. That`s why our class was
divided into two large groups beforehand according to the interests. Because
each of us prefers different music.
Let`s recall the names of
popular genres at first.

differ after all .As I have found out you enjoy some styles of British and American
music. Let me introduce the first group.
The leader of the first
group: Well, we`ll talk about British and American genres we admire: country,
electro, rap, pop British and American music. And our presentation`ll begin
with the history of pop music in Britain.
Teacher: Thank you .And
the second group is going to tell us about their favourite musical genre-jazz.
The leader of the second
group: Yes. Our group `ve prepared a presentation about jazz, a musical genre we`re
interested most of all. We`ll tell you about jazz musical instruments and
famous jazz singers.
Teacher: But before
listening to our speakers let`s recall some theoretical information about the
most common styles and genres and listen to them.

(from the teacher`s presentation about main musical genres).
Boogie style had emerged by the 20
th years as the classic examples. Boogie is a pure piano style , widely spread
through house - rent- party, a traditional party with musicians . Its
characteristic features - reliance on the blues tradition improvization,
technical virtuosity , sharp rhythms , breaks ( short solo improvisations) and
riffs ( repeated melodic figures ) ," wandering bass».
As
a musical style it was originated in the XIX century, and gained widespread
popularity in the beginning of the next century. Blues is a mixture of several
music genres of African-American culture such as "work song», «spirituals»
and "choler". Blues had a very large impact on the other styles of
music, particularly pop, jazz, rock and roll, rhythm 'n' blues and others.
Jazz,
blues-based, characterized by huge incendiary and improvisation. The main
feature of this style is polyrhythm, based on the syncopated rhythm. Jazz music
is elitist, which developed thanks to the development of new models musicians
of rhythm and harmony. Some genres of jazz can be attributed to the
professional and academic direction. For example, cool jazz, bebop.
The
term for this type of music is folk music (Eng.) Received wide acclaim at the
end of the last century, to define folk music in various cultures around the
world. Of course this kind was originated much earlier, and is one of the first
in music. In turn, it can be traced to three major genres: instrumental, song
and dance.
Rock'n'roll appeared
in the middle of the XX century in the United States. This style combines
incredible mix of huge, and as it seems at first glance, the amount of
incompatible genres. A distinctive feature of rock'n'roll - a clear rhythm and
frankly uninhibited performance. Greatly expanded the boundaries of rock and
roll, whereby there was rock music - is an independent, new style.

Reggae
- one of the national forms of pop music. Roots of reggae - folk music of
Jamaica ( and Latin America in general) , as well as rhythm and blues. This
alloy originated in the 60s , when Jamaican musicians have tried to reproduce
in his own New Orleans ( rhythm and blues ) , which was heard on the radio .
Jamaicans loved rhythm and blues .In fact , many residents of the "solar
island " were the descendants of black slaves brought to Jamaica in the
XVII century from Africa. The king of classical reggae movement , of course,
was and still is Bob Marley , who was able to express in music all the hopes of
Jamaicans . His reggae , remains peaceful dance ,instrumental music.
This
kind of music mainly specialized on computer programs and synthesizers.
Established in the second half of the XX century and combines an extensive
range of different genres, sub-genres and styles. Music composers use modern
computer technologies related to academic electronics.
In 1979 in the United
States the new style of music - hip-hop was originated in African-American environment.
Two elements: rap (clear rhyming rhythmic recitation) and rhythm that DJ sets
(mostly bass and synthesizer) - are the foundation of the genre. Hip-hop, as
well as many of the above styles, also has a huge number of genres and
subgenres.
It`s impossible to name
all separate subspecies, but all of the above is the foundation, core and it is
exactly that composers and musicians create their works on this basis and
completely new directions appear.
