-          Plural forms of nouns and exercise: 13

Task 1

-          Pupils, how can we form plural form of noun?

-          The plural form of the nouns are often formed by adding the suffixes –s and –es. For example: book – books, armchair - armchairs

- Today we will have an unusual lesson. Before beginning our lesson let’s revise the ABC. Today we will speak about the house. Let’s begin our lesson. What date is it today? Open your copybooks and write down today’s date. The theme of our lesson

“My flat”.

 

b) Presentation of new words

Today we’ll learn the names of the rooms. Look at the board, please. You can see the new words. Repeat after me, please. That’s all. Open your vocabularies and write down the new words into it.

New words

a living room – тұрғын, қонақ бөлме

a study – оқу, жұмыс бөлме

a dining room – ас ішетін бөлме

a bathroom – жуынатын бөлме

a toilet - әжетхана

a bedroom – ұйықтайтын, жатын бөлме

a corridor – дәліз

a hall - хол

a cooker - газ

a dishwasher – ыдыс жуатын машина

a washing machine – кір жуатын машина

a sink – қол жуатын жер

a fridge - тоңазытқыш

cups – шыны-аяқ

plates – тәрелкелер

 

-          Boys and girls, look at the picture. What is it? It is a flat. That’s right. Write the names of the room.

b) Explanation of new grammar

- Today we have a grammar theme. The structures There is… / There are… We use structures there is to say where the thing is now, ……. Its whereabouts. For example: There is a book on the table. And we use the structure there are to inform where the things are: There are two armchairs in the living room.

We form the interrogative forms of the structures by replacing the formal word there and auxiliary verbs is, are.

Is there a book on the table?

Are there pens in the bag?

In the negative form we add not after the auxiliary verbs is, are.

            There is not (isn’t)

            There are not (aren’t)

Task 2

Read the texts and translate into Kazakh.

            Text 1. My flat

            I live in a house. Our house is big. There is a living room, two bedrooms, my room and a kitchen. My room is nice. There is a big window in my room. There is a bed, a table, a computer in my room. There are two pictures in my room. I like my room.

 

            Text 2. Omar’s kitchen.

            It’s a modern kitchen. It’s nice and clean. There is a washing machine , a fridge and a cooker, but there isn’t a dishwasher.

            There are a lot of cupboards in the kitchen. There isn’t a carpet on the floor. There is a radio. There isn’t a clock in the kitchen. There aren’t plates and cups in the sink.

 

            Text 3. Omar’s house

            There are four rooms in Omar’s house: a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom. There is a hall and a toilet. There isn’t a study in the house. There are flowers on the fire. There aren’t plants on the fire. There is a carpet in front of fire. There are books on the shelf. There are hooks.

 

Task 3

            Read these texts and your task to find which sentence is right or wrong.

1. There is a big window in my room.

2. There are six pictures in my room.

3. There are a lot of cupboards in the kitchen.

4. There is a carpet on the floor.

5. There is a clock in the kitchen.

  2. There are beds or a sofa in this room. You can see a little table and a wardrobe there. People have a rest in this room.
  3. It this room may wash your hands and face, clean your teeth, take a bath or a shower.
  4. In this room there is a table, chairs or armchairs, a sofa, a television and a carpet.
  5. It is a thing that helps us to read when it is dark in the room.
  6. It is a thing where we keep our clothes.
  7. It is a thing in the kitchen to cook our food.
  8. It is a thing kitchen where we can wash up.
  9. It is a thing that we can see our faces in.
  10. It is a thing we usually travel by.
  11. It is a thing where we can sit and read before the fire.
  12. It is a place we can live.
