Theme: “Culture and Art in Kazakhstan: Kazakh musical instruments”
Grade: 8 “A”
Date: 23.03.2014
Type of the lesson: Combined
Aims of the lesson:
- To produce the topics that will be covered at the lesson: to remember new words on the topic;
to teach pupils to talk more
- Listening: to introduce the listening task,developing pupils' listening comprehension
The Focus: Teacher presents or express new material to pupils
Speaking and writing: to teach pupils to understand texts about Kazakh musical instruments, to give pupils the opportunity to produce their reports (essay)- developing speaking and writing skills.
- Being cultural educated, developing the fillings of beauty
Objectives:
-To practise using adjectives for describing music;
-To practise giving opinions, agreeing and disagreeing (Unprepared speech)
-To talk about personal tastes in music (Prepared speech and unprepared speech)
-To read Essay about Dombra and Kobyz
Visual aids and equipments: multimedia,slides,active board, didactic material, dombra
Methods:1.deductive 2.objective 3.independent 4.interactive, “Cluster”, “Brain-storm” “Essay”.
Procedure of the lesson
1. Org. moment
T: Good afternoon, dear boys and girls. I am very glad to see you. How are you?
P-s: Good afternoon teacher! We are fine and you?
T: I am fine too, thank you. I am very glad to see you. Sit down.
II Warming up (on the active board)
T: So, on the blackboard you see the proverb. Read it loudly
“Art is long,life is short”
T: How do you understand the meaning of this proverb(in English)?
P1,P2 express their opinions
T: As you have already understood today we have an unusual lesson: “Culture and Art in Kazakhstan: Kazakh musical instruments”. We shall be listening to music, speaking about musical instruments, giving opinions and making reports
(Beautiful melody)
T: Now we shall choose 2 pupils : the 1-st pupil will play a role of a psychologist,the 2-nd pupil will appreciate and analyse the lesson (at the end)
All the pupils choose 2 pupils.
III Listening (activity)
Pre-listening activity:
Look at the blackboard and try to describe the following Kazakh musical instruments (pictures: dobra, kobyz)
Listening: listen to the topics about Dombra and Kobyz, try to understand the meaning.
Practise: Teacher gives pupils several cards with the tasks.
Complete the following sentences according to texts:
1. Nomads were …… people and used to make their instruments from practically any material
2. …… Used to assemble flocks of sheep by playing melodies on sybyzgy.
3. During…. Rituals one could hear asatayak, jingling with tiny bells
4. A two-stringed instrument doesn't at all differ from the two-stringled Kazakh ... …….

T:Listen to music, please.
Pupils are listening to music by A.Ensepov “The childhood” by B. Kuanishbekova “Kobyz”
T: Try to describe the melody you have listened now
T: The Kazakh love the art of wordplay and their akyns (poets),who improves at public competitions (aitys) accompanied by Kazakh stringed musical instruments.
They are: Asatayak, Dabyl, Dombra, Kobyz, Muiz Syrnai, Subyzgy.

T: Ok,our lesson is over. Did you like it? Do you have any questions?
T:Now,let's give our pupils the opportunity to analyse the lesson:
P1 (“The role of a psychologist”) expresses his thoughts : appreciates the situation; he should express his opinion whose answers have been the best, he should comment some interesting moments, do remarks.
P2 (“Thinker”) He should appreciate the lesson; he must determine the main idea of the lesson
