А. С. Пушкина «Капитанская дочка»
A. We
have a short interval, let’s see some books on the stand. I see the «Captain’s
daughter» in Russian. I should say that the book is very interesting and I’ve
read a lot about Pugachev’s uprising.
B. Do
you feel sorry for poor Masha?
A. But
she remained alive. I feel sorry for Pugachev. He had lost several battles and then
the tsar army arrested him and brought to the Russian tsarin Catherin II. She
ordered to kill him.
B. You
know, Pugachev was cruel and had killed a lot of people. I cannot feel sorry
for him.
A. Still
the peasants joined his army and took part in that uprising. The tsarin
oppressed the peasants.
B. It’s
true. But why do you want to get some more Pushkin’s novels?
A. I’ve
heard that the other novels by this writer are not less interesting.
(Начинает тихо
звучать музыка Свиридова «Метель»)
Oh, the interval is over,
let’s hurry up to our places.

Гринев: It
happened on my way to the Belogorsk fortress. The weather was very bad, it
began to snow. Soon the horses stopped, they couldn’t move any more.
Suddenly we saw a strange man,
he looked like a peasant. The man agreed to snow the way to the station. I gave
him a hare-coat. It was my first meeting with Pugachev. I came safely to the
Belogorsk fortress and began to serve in the tsarin army. Soon Pugachev and his
people attacked the Belogorsk fortress and took it. They killed a lot of people
who fought against them. But Pugachev didn’t kill me. He remembered me who had
given him the hare-coat. And Pugachev freed me.
