Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome in our conference hall. Today we are going to hold a conference devoted to Artificial Intelligence. But before starting our work let‘s check up your IQ as surely you must be cleverer and more intelligent than the machines we are going to discuss, you are to find the definitions of some very important terms.

( The words and their definitions are written on the interactive white board)


2. Each of you is given the plan of our conference and let’s discuss it in detail.

e.g. The report “The future of the Earth” will be made at 11 o’clock.

3. I think it’s time to begin our conference. The theme of the conference is Artificial Intelligence. To my mind it’s one of the most interesting questions nowadays. And we are going to discuss some very important things and answer the questions that are facing before the mankind.

4. And now, please, listen to Sveta who will make the report “Artificial Intelligence”.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and the branch of computer science which aims to create it. John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1956, defines it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."

The field was founded on the claim that a central property of human beings, intelligence—the sapience of Homo sapiens—can be so precisely described that it can be simulated by a machine. This raises philosophical issues about the nature of the mind and limits of scientific hubris, issues which have been addressed by myth, fiction and philosophy since antiquity. Artificial intelligence has become an essential part of the technology industry.

Thinking machines and artificial beings appear in Greek myths, such as Talos of Crete, the golden robots of Hephaestus and Pygmalion's Galatea.

The idea also appears in modern science fiction: the film Artificial Intelligence.


Maybe some of you will add some more information or express your point of view concerning this question. (some students give the additional information)

In the 21st century, AI research has become highly specialized and technical. It is deeply divided into subfields that often fail to communicate with each other. Subfields have grown up around particular institutions, the work of particular researchers, particular problems and the application of widely differing tools.

  1. Deduction, reasoning, problem solving

  2. Planning

  3. Learning

  4. Motion and manipulation

Applications of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence has successfully been used in a wide range of fields including medical diagnosis, stock trading, robot control, law, scientific discovery, video games and toys.


5. So you’ve got acquainted with the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and its philosophy and problems.

Now I would like you to watch the extract from the film and we shall discuss it.

I am sure each of you has your own opinion after watching this film, those who agree that robots are our future will go to the left, those who don’t agree to the right and those whose position is neutral must stand here.

Now you may express your point of view.

Recently I have seen a very amusing calendar in one of the scientific magazines. And I would like you to have a look at it. It is the prediction about the future of robots in our life

Certainly it’s difficult to predict the future life on our planet, but can we predict our own future? I suggest making predictions about your classmates and we’ll see if they coincide with their wishes.

(The students take the cards with the names and make their predictions, then they see the predictions on the board and compare them).

In conclusion we can say that the future of the Earth, the necessity of different kinds of intellectual intelligence is in our hands, we must do everything possible not to harm to ourselves, to our planet, to the universe.

Актобе Республики Казахстан.Данный урок является заключительным уроком по теме «Искусственный разум» и представляет собой урок-конференцию с элементами деловой игры. Цель урока- обобщение и систематизация умений и навыков неподготовленной устной речи на основе монологических и диалогических высказываний в форме дискуссии, деловой игры, учащиеся учатся делать предсказывать будущее своих одноклассников и сравнивать с их планами, высказывать свое мнение о будущем и роли роботов в нашей жизни.
