2.1. Грамматическая тема: Глагол to be. Глагол to have. Оборот there is/there are.
“to be”
Глагол “to
I am
|
|
He / She / It is
|
|
We / You / They are
|
I am = I’m,
He is = He’s, She is = She’s, It is = It’s,
We are
= We’re, You are = You’re, They are = They’re.
“to be” ставится перед подлежащим:
Are you a
student?
Is your
friend at home?
форме после глагола “to be” ставится частица “not”:
She is not my
sister.
You
are not happy.
вместо “is not” и “are not” употребляются преимущественно
сокращенные формы “isn’t” и “aren’t”. “Am not” сокращается
вместе с личным местоимением и имеет форму “I’m not”.
I’m
not cold.
Не
isn’t hungry.
You
aren’t sure.
глагола “to be” в настоящем,

Глагол “to have”
Глагол “to
В Present
Simple “to have” спрягается так:
I have
|
|
He / She / It has
|
|
We / You / They have
|
|
форма глагола “to have” в
лице единственного числа “does”) и глагола “to have” в форме инфинитива без
частицы “to”:
Do you have
any money?
Does she have
a car?
форма глагола “to have” в Present
единственного числа – “does”), отрицательной частицы “not” и глагола “to have”
I don’t have
any money.
She doesn’t
have a car.
“to have” в Present Indefinite образуются двумя способами:
- путем
прибавления отрицательной частицы “not” после глагола “to have”
I haven’t any
time.
- с
отрицательным местоимением “no” после глагола “to have”:
I have no
brothers or sisters.
глаголом “to have” широко используется оборот “to have got” cо значением
I have got a
headache (= I’ve got a headache) – У меня болит голова.
He has got a
computer (= He’s got a computer) – У него есть компьютер.
глагола “to have”: Have you got a pet? No, I haven’t got a pet.
there is / there are
Оборот there
there is/there are
|
Вводное there
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Present Indefinite
|
There
|

|

|

|
Past Indefinite
|
There
|
was
|
a book
|

|
Future Indefinite
|
There
|
will be
|
a book
|

|
The book is on the table. –
There is a book on the table. –
there is (для единственного числа), there are (для множественного числа) могут
времени (there is, there are) словами есть, имеется (имеются),
находится (находятся);
(there was, there were) – был(а) (были), имелся (имелись), находился
(находились);
(there will be) – будет (будут) иметься, находиться.
Слово there в
Our library
is very good: there are many books there. –
We have
a meeting today, there will be many people there. –
форма предложений с оборотом there is образуется путем постановки глагола to be перед словом there:
Is there a tram stop near the Institute? –
Are there many students in your group? –
Were there many people at the lecture? –
There are no English books in the library. –
There was no radio a hundred years ago.
Is there a
book on the table? – No, there is not. (There isn’t)

“Russian education system”
Russian
education system was originally inherited from the Soviet Union without any
significant changes. In the Soviet Union, education of all levels was free for
anybody who could pass entrance exams; students were provided with small
scholarships and free housing. It has produced nearly 100 % literacy. In the
Soviet Union institutions were funded entirely from the federal and regional
budgets. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, institutions found themselves
unable to provide adequate teachers' salaries, students9 scholarships, and to
maintain their facilities. Many state institutions started to open commercial
positions. The number of those positions has been growing steadily since then.
Many private higher education institutions have emerged, too. In 2004, 35 % of
all first-year students were paying for their own education in state
institutions and 20 % were enrolled in private universities.
Education
in Russia may be arranged into three major groups: secondary education, higher
education, and postgraduate education. Secondary education in Russia usually
takes eleven years to complete. After graduation from the 9th grade, which is
compulsory, a pupil obtains a Certificate of Incomplete Secondary Education.
After that a pupil has can either continue education for two more years at the
secondary school, or to go to a Community College.
The
latter variant usually takes three to four years to complete and provides a
pupil with qualification sufficient for most blue-collar jobs.
After
obtaining a Certificate of Complete Secondary Education a student can enter a
University or a Community College. Nowadays, the country has 685 governmental
higher education institutions and 619 nongovernmental higher education
establishments (1,162 of which are state-accredited). In 2003—2004, the total
number of students of higher education institutions was 5,947,500.
There
are three different degrees that are conferred by Russian universities:
Bachelor's Degree (4 years), Specialist's Degree (5—6 years), and Master's
Degree (6 years). Bachelor's degrees were introduced relatively recently and
are not offered by many six-year institutions. After obtaining a Specialist's
or Master's Degree, a student may pursue postgraduate education. The first
level of postgraduate education is aspirantura that usually results in the
Candidate of Sciences Degree, roughly equivalent to the Ph. D. in the United
States. The second stage would result in the Doctor's Degree. A Candidate of
Sciences Degree may be accompanied by honourary degree of assistant professor
and a Doctor's Degree may be accompanied by honourary degree of professor.

“System of Education in the United Kingdom”
The
quality of a country's future life, commercially, industrially and
intellectually, depends on the quality of its education system. The state in
the United Kingdom provides a full range of free schooling. Those parents who
prefer to send their children to private educational institutions, are free to
do so. There are about 2500 fee-paying, or public schools in the country.
State
schooling in the UK is not as centralized as in most European countries.
Firstly, there is no prescribed curriculum. Secondly, the types of schools
available and the age ranges for which they cater vary in different parts of
the country. Local Educational Authorities are responsible for education in
each area. At any state school no tuition fees are payable. State schooling in
the UK is funded by the government and the local rates.
Schooling
is voluntary under the age of five, and compulsory from 5 to 16. Generally,
primary education in the UK takes place in infant schools (for ages 5-7) and
junior schools (for ages 8-11); secondary education takes place in secondary
schools. Pupils can stay at school voluntarily for up to three years longer.
Until 1964 children took an 'eleven plus exam' at the age of 11 and were 'streamed'
according to the results of the exam for education in different types of
secondary schools. Grammar schools provided a mainly academic course for the
top 20 %, technical schools specialized in technical studies, modern schools
provided a general education with a practical bias. In 1965 non-selective
comprehensive schools were introduced, though the old system still exists.
Having
completed a compulsory education, 16 year-olds may start work, remain at school
or study at a Further Education college. At schools and colleges they can take
the school-leaving General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams — in
a range of subjects. Other students prefer to pursue work-based training such
as General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQs), which provide skills and
knowledge some in vocational areas such as business, engineering, etc. Having
completed GCSEs most students usually specialize in three to four subjects
leading to General Certificate of Education (GCE) A Levels. Others can take
higher grade GNVQs.
Many
students then move towards higher education training at universities, colleges
and institutes offering studies at degree level and higher. The most common
degree courses, which usually take three years to complete are the Bachelor of
Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Education (BEd), Bachelor of
Engineering (BEng) and Bachelor of Laws (LLB). Master degrees for those
undertaking further study include the Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science
(MSc), Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Laws (LLM). Then
there are research-based postgraduate courses leading to the Master of
Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD/DPhil).
These
academic qualifications involve thousands of courses at more than 180 higher
educational establishments in Britain. The most famous British universities
are, of course, Oxford and Cambridge called 'Oxbridge' and famous for their
academic excellence.
