All
adjectives are different. They may consist of one or more syllables that`s why the
degrees of comparison can be formed differently. There are there of them:
positive, comparative and superlative.
1
syllable or 2 syllable adjectives ending on -y, -ow, -le, -ertake suffix - er
to form the comparative degree and suffix -est to form the superlative form. Notice
that -y is replaced by -i in the comparative and the superlative forms.
The
rest 2 syllable adjectives and all multisyllabic adjectives do not change their
form. We put the word more before the adjective in the comparative form
and the word the most in the superlative form.
Some
adjectives are exceptions. They must be learned by heart.
You
can use special constructions to compare things. For example as…as, not so…as,
than… .
And
now we shall work in two teams. Choose leaders and names for your teams.
Предполагаемыеответыобучающихся:
We are ….and our leader is…
Teacher:
You will have some tasks. For each task you will get smiles of different
colour. We shall count them at the end of the lesson and find out the best
students. The motto of our competition is:
Good,
better, the best.
Let
us never rest
Till
our good is better
And
better is the best
So,
let`s begin our competition. The 1st task. Fill in the blanks with

Your
task now is to find all sentences with the comparatives. Be ready to translate
them into Russian. You have got 5 minutes to do the task.
Travelling
Travelling
became a part of our life. Thousands of people travel everyday either on
business or for pleasure. They travel by road, by train, by air or by sea.
Of
course, travelling by air is the fastest and the most convenient way, but it is
the most expensive, too. Travelling by train is slower than travelling by
plane, but it is less expensive. You can see many interesting places of the
country through the window. Modern trains have more comfortable seats. There
are also sleeping cars and dining cars that make even the longest journey more
pleasant. Speed, comfort and safety are the main advantages of trains and
planes. That is why many people prefer them to all other kinds of travelling.
Travelling
by sea is popular mostly for pleasure trips. Tourists can make voyages on large
ships to foreign countries. The trips on the Volga, the Don and the Black Sea
are very popular today.
As
for me I prefer travelling by car. I think it is more convenient because you
don't buy tickets, you can stop any place and spend as much time as you like at
any place.
Проверка понимания прочитанного.
Teacher:
The time is up.
What
sentences contain the comparatives? Let`s read them and translate.
(Students
give their answers).
Teacher:
And what is your favourite means of transport? How do you usually travel?
Предполагаемыеответыобучающихся:
I usually travel by car. It is convenient and faster than travelling by train.
I
like travelling by train. It`s very comfortable and cheaper than by plane.
Teacher:
You were great. Thank you.
3) Заключительная часть урока (объяснение домашнего
задания, рефлексия)
Hometask.
Imagine
that your friend is going to travel abroad. Give him\her a piece of advice on
which means of travelling to choose. Use text Travelling at page 198 or
internet resources for help.
Рефлексивно-оценочныйэтап
Our
lesson is coming to its end. Let`s evaluate our work today. Leaders of the
teams, how do you find your teams work today? These expressions will help you.
Предполагаемыеответыобучающихся:
…
was good but … was better.
And
… was the best of all.
…
was more active than …
And
… was the most active today.
Teacher:
I think everyone worked wonderful today. Look at your smiles. If you have more
pink smiles you did everything very good. If you have more green smiles, you
should work a little harder. If you have many blue smiles work as hard as
possible to master your English. And do not forget our motto.
The
lesson is over. Good bye and good luck.
