Aims
– to develop students` reading, writing, listening and speaking skills by means
of organizing the interactive pair and group work

cultivate students` aesthetic taste and the habit of reading English literature
Equipment: a
tape recorder, handouts, posters, computer.
PROCEDURE
I.
INTRODUCTIONS
1. Greeting
T. Good morning students`!
How are you getting on? I`m glad to hear that you are fine and I hope we`ll
have a very successful lesson today.
2.
Aim of
the lesson
T. I`d like you to make a
circle around me now. I`ll tell you a word and you should say all your associations
you`ve got with word. So look at me. I`m «a page». You associations… (students
name all the words associated with the word «page». Example: book, writer,
interesting, genres, novel, story, poem, poet, rhyme, etc. Aim – to revise the
vocabulary on the topic «Books» and to guess the topic of the lesson)
T. Take your seats now and
look at the blackboard. You see this mind map (slide 1). Let`s read it first.
Can you tell me what we are going to discuss today? Right you are! Genres of
books, poetry and poets.

Do you think it`s
easy to write poems? I hope by the end of the lesson you`ll be able to answer

on the left, all «C»`s in the centre.

1. Fun-minute
Match the two halves of
some proverbs. Explain their meaning (slide 2)

Role-Play
T. Do you often go to the

All right! Read the
dialogue please and try to imagine that one of you is a librarian, another one
is a visitor.

organized
Librarian. What would you like to
know?
Alex. I would be very grateful
if you could show me where to find the books about these people.
L. Sure. If you follow me,
I`ll show you how our library is organized. Everything that we have in our
library you can find listed on our computer system.
A. Really? How does it work?
How can I find the books I`m looking for?
L. Just type in the name of
the author or the title of the book and the computer will tell you where the
book is located in the library. It will also give you a short description of
the book.
A. How convenient!

T. So, what do you think

Have you ever been to
the library like that?
Where is it situated?
Would you like to have
such library at our school?
(The students who didn`t
represent the dialogue answer the question)
4.
Group-work.
T. Look at the
blackboard. You see the portraits of famous English people. Guess whose
portraits are these (R. Kipling, W. Shakespeare, R. Burns) Now we are going to
listen to the text and after that you will have to do some tasks. (Students are
suggested to listen R. Burns`s biography)

T. Well, children, let`s
play. Read the sentence and think where the it`s right or has a mistake. If
it`s right and you buy it i`ll give you twenty dollars. If it`s not right and
you buy it, you give me twenty dollars. (slide 4)

5. Group-work. Aquarium
T. Two groups have the
different texts. One group -«W. Shakespeare» (HO3).The other one -«R. Kipling»
(HO3). Read the instructions attentively. (slide 6). Your task is to extract
the information from another group. Then you should represent it here with the
whole group in the classroom. The third group will be the observers. You will
analyze the presentation, add or correct something if it`s necessary.
6. Artistic reading and
translation.
Students read, translate
and discuss poems «My Heart`s In The Highlands» (p. 80) and «Six Serving Men»
by R. Kipling (HO4)
SIX SERVING MEN
I have six honest serving
men –
They taught me all I knew.
Their names are What and
Why and When.
And How and Where and Who.
I send them over land and
sea.
I send them East and West;
But after they have worked
for me,
I give them all a rest.
I let them rest from nine

7. Writing limerick
A)
T. Do you know what a
limerick is?
Limerick is a type a short
funny poem with five lines, the first two rhyming with the last one, and the
third with the fourth. (slide 7)
They are very popular in
Britain and quite funny. There the example

T. Here are three
limericks, which are jumbled in the lines below. Restore the text of the
