Базовая форма произносится /ri:d/, а форма прошедшего времени и причастия прошедшего времени — /red/.

Changing from Active into Passive
The object of the active verb becomes the subject in the new sentence.
The active verb changes into a passive form and the subject of the active verb becomes the agent. The agent is introduced with by or it is omitted.
After modal verbs (will, can, must, have to, should, may, ought to) we use be + past participle.
You can use the machine for cutting bread, - The machine can be used for cutting bread.
With verbs taking two objects it is more usual to begin the passive sentence with the person.
I sent her some roses. She was sent some roses, (more usual) or Some roses were sent to her. (less usual)
We put the agent (= the person who does the action) into the passive sentence only if it adds
information. When the agent is unknown, unimportant or obvious it is omitted. Agents such as
people (in general), they, somebody etc. are omitted.
Bell invented the telephone.
The telephone was invented by Bell. (The agent is not omitted because it adds information.)
Somebody murdered him. He was
murdered (by somebody). (Unknown agent is omitted.)
The police arrested him. He
was arrested (by tho police). (Obvious agent is omitted.)

Type 3 |
If - clause |
Main clause (result) |
Use |
unreal past |
If + Past Perfect |
would/could/might + have + past participle
|
unreal or improbable situation in the past; also used to express regrets and criticism |
If you hadn't been rude, he wouldn't have fired you. (But you were very rude and he fired you.) (criticism)
Study the following notes:
1. We put a comma after the if-clause when it comes first.
If we go by plane, it will be more expensive. It will be more expensive if we go by plane.
2. Unless means if not.
We'll go for a picnic unless it rains. We'll go for a picnic if it doesn't rain.
3. After if, we can use were instead of was in all persons.
If I were you, I wouldn't spend so much money.
4. We do not usually use will, would or should in an if-clause.
If we take a taxi, we won't be late. NOT If we will take a taxi, we won't b e late.
However, we use should after if when we are less sure about a possibility.
If I see him, I'll give it to him. (Perhaps I will see him.)
If I should see him, I'll give it to him.
