people celebrate Christmas on the 7th of January. People go to the
church and give presents to children. We arrange a family dinner and eat very
tasty dishes.
|
-Now your turn, The
Russians. What do you know about traditional British holidays?
- You know there are so
many strange holidays that people celebrate in different countries. The
British celebrate Queen’s birthday twice a year: on the 21 of April, it’s
her real birthday, and on the 1st or 2nd Saturday of June,
it’s her official birthday. It was King Edward VIII who celebrated his
birthday twice a year. He was born in autumn and it was always rainy and
foggy on his birthday. So he decided to celebrate his birthday in June. Since
then British Kings have two birthdays.
Ossetian holidays:
1)
Kutuganan ( 5th day
of April, Sunday)
It’s
a holiday of bread, agricultural works. According to the tradition women
cooked three pies. People went to each other, prayed, asked for wealth.
At
this day young men competed in archery. It was supposed, that the year would
be very lucky for the winner.
2)
Dzeorguba
The holiday is devoted to Saint George. He
was respected by ancestries. This holiday is celebrated in autumn, when the
harvest is gathered. Then marriages and “ kuvds” begin. The main member of the
family asked God for health. Now it’s Ossetian traditional holiday. People
prepare for it, invite their neighbours.
3)
Big Tutr (23d of Feubrary)
He
supposed to be the Master of wolves and celestial being, who asked God for goods
for people. On this holiday people didn’t eat anything till afternoon, even
children didn’t dare to drink water. Everyone hoped that Tutr protected them
from different diseases and helped them in growing herd. Many people
celebrate this holiday nowadays.

-Today we are going to write
an invitation card. But first of all let’s train a little, how to make it.
You see an invitation card
there. You are not only invite your friend to the birthday party, but think
about what will you do with your guest, how will you spend this day. For
example:
“Dear Ann, I’m having my
Birthday party on the 4th of May. You are invited. Please come at
11 am. Mum is going to make some salads and to bake an Apple pie. Or: After
lunch we may go for a walk or have some music. “
- Then you should sign the
card. If I were you I would write: With love, Mary.
Now pay attention on how
the card is written: Firstly, you’ll write the date in the right corner of
the card. -What will you write it? You have to write the name at the very
beginning of the line and put comma, then you will start an indénted line and
will write the first word with the capital letter. You will write your name
like this. Is everything clear? You’ll write to your friends and invite them
to your birthday parties.
