Now, students look please at the blackboard. (Slide 2) Do you recognize this person? (Christopher Columbus). When did he discover America? (1492, October 12).

As you know every country has its own symbols. What are the symbols of America? (Flag, oak, eagle, rose) (Slide 3).

Let’s talk about the flag. In the USA the flag is not only a symbol, but also a decoration of any house or car. As you know Americans are very proud of their country. Who knows why does the US flag look exactly this way? (50 stars- 50 states, 13 stripes- 13 colonies) (Slide 4).

As you have already said, there are 50 states in the USA.(Slide 5)

Of course some of them are small, some are big. Can you name the biggest states in the USA? (Alaska, Texas, California). Who knows some facts about these states? (Slide 6)

Also there are a lot of beautiful and big cities in the USA. Do you know the name of the most attractive and big city in the USA? (New York).

New York has a lot of nicknames. What is the most famous one? (The Big Apple). Also it has such nicknames as Center of the Universe, The City That Never Sleeps. (Slide 8)

I don’t think, it will be surprisingly that New York City has many attractions, that is why there are a lot of tourists all year round. By the way, do you know some attractions in New York? After reading the text “New York City” I want you to answer my questions. What can you say about US attractions? What is the most famous one? (Slide 9).

Statue of Liberty (Slide 10) Statue of Liberty, standing at the entrance of New York Harbor and was dedicated on October 28, 1886.

Castle Clinton National Monument (Slide 11) Castle Clinton Monument is located in Battery Park.

Washington Square (Slide 12) Washington Square is located at the end of the Fifth Avenue, which runs through the center of Manhattan.

Empire State Building (Slide 13) The tallest building is the Empire State Building.

Times Square (Slide 14) Times Square is the center of a district of theatres, nightclubs and shops.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral (Slide 15) St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the largest Roman Catholic Church in New York.

Rockefeller Center (Slide 16) Rockefeller Center is the world’s largest privately own business and entertainment complex.

And of course, America has its own National Holidays. Do you know some of them that may be familiar to you? ( New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, Halloween Day). Which of them do we celebrate in our country? (Slide 17).

Moreover, I would like to tell you about my own experience in the USA. This summer I have been to the USA. I was in New York State, in a small tourist town. While staying in the USA, I have visited New York City for two days. I saw the Statue of Liberty with my own eyes. Also, I visited Madame Tussauds Museum, Times Square, Rockefeller Center. So I enjoyed my holiday very much. And I would like to finish our lesson with the following proverb: “From small beginnings come great things”. Thank you for attention.
