Educational aid: to speak about Kazakh national sport, British and American kinds of sport and games.

Equipment: cards with questions, wallpaper, dictionaries, puzzles.

Type of the lesson: the game

Methods of teaching: exercise, reading, conversation.

Organization moment: Good Afternoon! Sit down, please. How are you? Who is on duty today? What date is it today? What day is it today? Who is absent? How many lessons have you got today? What are they? Who is the teacher of Biology?

Phonetic drill: Let’s recollect numerals: 66 – sixty six, 78 – seventy eight…

Type of the lesson: the game

Methods of teaching: exercise, reading, conversation.

Our lesson is about sport and games.

And I suggest you making 2 teams. The first team is named “Rounds” and the second one “Diamonds”.

For each right answer I’ll give you an apple which you will hang the apple upon the tree of your team. Who has more apples that team will win this game.

What kind of sport do you know? What do you like? As you know sport increases our health. That’s why there are some sayings in England.

1.Now I’ll give one saying and one joke to each team. You must explain them.

Sayings:

1.     An apple a day keeps doctor away.

2.     Health is above wealth.

Jokes:

1.     Good medicine.

Patient: I suffer terribly from headaches. What advice can you give me, doctor? Should I take headache tablets?

Doctor: Yes, I have got some fine tablets for your trouble. One of my patients has been using them for fifteen years and he has never asked for any more.

2.     Foggy football.

After a football match two sports ground workers were walking across the field to take down the nets from the goal posts. It was a very foggy day and so it took them some time to find the goal. And whom did they find there? The goalkeeper. He was standing near the goal and talking to himself, « We must be given them a really tough »

You must choose the number of the question. Then I’ll give you 2 minutes to answer the question.

1.     Young boys  and girls are participants in this game. The girl on the horse does her best to gallop from the young man but as soon as the boy tries to overtake her she lashes him whip. If – up to a certain place – the boy fails to overtake her, she would «reward» him with whipping again. If  he is a success he earns a kiss.  (Kyz – kuu)

2.     In addition to traditional horse – races during festivals this game was usually played. One of the horse – riders with a goat’s carcass in his hand faced far ahead. Other participants in the game followed him. A winner had to have a quick horse to catch up with the jigit (young man) with the goat’s carcass. He would snatch the carcass and slip out his pursuers’ hands to finish first. He had to be skillful and experienced horse – rider. (Kokpar)

3.     This game is a national sport which requires skills both in hand – to – hand fighting and riding. In fact two men fight while on horseback. Wins the one that brings his adversary down off his horse. (Audarispak)

4.     Although Englishmen played this game in the Middle Ages or even earlier, as an organized game it dates from just over a century ago. One type of football, in which the players carried the oval ball in their hands, appeared in 1859. 5.     It is England’s national summer game. Nobody knows exactly how old the game is, but some form of this game was being played in England in the 13^th century. 7.     Football is a very popular team sport in the United States of America (USA). This game is rather like Rugby. Played between two teams of 11 players using an oval ball that can be handled or kicked. But is still differs from European rugby and soccer. The difference is not only in the size, speed and strength of the players, but in the specific rules which the game has. The countless rules of this game which state what each player in each position may or may not to do. (American Football)

8.     This game has a reputation of being a «typically American» sport. It is played with a wooden bat and hard ball by two teams of nine players. The game is played on a field with four bases at the corners of a square called diamond. Each player from one team hits a ball with a bat and then tries to run round all four bases before the other team can get the ball back. (Baseball)

9.     This game which is really one of the most popular sports in the world today is an American in origin. The first game was played in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891. (American Football)

10. What is Wimbledon? (Wimbledon – is an important tennis competition which takes place every summer in the All English Club, in the part of London called Wimbledon)
