Ведущий: Ladies and gentlemen! Dear friends! We are glad to greet you at our Queen’s birthday party. There are a lot of guests from different countries here .
Introduce yourself, please. Don’t forget to name yourself.
(A “journalist” rushes into the room)
-Sorry, I am late. What is happening here? What is this meeting devoted to?
The birthday of the British Queen.
I beg your pardon. What’s her name?
Shame on you! Don’t you know the Queen’s name? Her majesty Queen Elisabeth.
May I ask you a silly question? As far as I remember Queen Elisabeth was the leader of the pirates in the Middle Ages at Shakespeare’s time.
Stop mocking! You know quite well that it was the daughter of Henry the eighth from Tudor’s dynasty. Her title was Elisabeth the first and now we are going to greet the modern Queen Elisabeth the Second.
But if I am not mistaken her birthday was in April. Why are you celebrating it in two months’ time?
Oh, it’s such a funny story! One of the British monarchs who was born either in winter or in late autumn felt sorry for his people. You know when the Queen’s or King’s birthday is celebrated it is a tradition to lay the tables with delicious food in the streets. But the weather was nasty at that time, it was snowing and a cold wind was blowing so the Parliament agreed to the King’s offer and adopted the law when the monarch’s birthday from that time on is celebrated in June whenever the King was really born.
Oh, it’s really very interesting. But can you tell us the way the guests are chosen for the party?
Well, well, well. Every year the Queen receives thousands of congratulations. They are brought to the Buckingham Palace in big bags and piled before the Queen. Then her majesty comes in and selects one hundred letters at random .The list of lucky ones is published and they are invited to spend a week at the Buckingham Palace.
Oh, that means that anyone can be invited to the Palace? Let’s write down the letters and send them to the Queen.
I beg your pardon, how old is the Queen? Sorry to ask about the woman’s age.
Don’t you know ?She was ninety on the twenty first of April. Now she is two months older.
Sorry, and what is her husband’s name and how old is he?
He is ninety six and his title is Duke of Edinburgh .You know ,he is a Greek prince, that’s why he is only the Queen’s husband but not the king himself.
So ,to make a long story short, who is eager to congratulate her Majesty? Pass me the letters, please.
Thus, everything is ready and we are waiting for the Queen.
Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth the second. (музыка) Stand up, please.
God save our gracious Queen!
Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.
(The Queen comes in)
Many happy returns of the day, your Majesty. Will you choose the letters for the guests’ invitations?
You are welcome! We are glad to greet you at our Majesty’s birthday party!(the ceremony of selection goes on)
