Subject: Political situation in the world at the turn of the 20th century
Objectives: By the end of the lesson students will be able
to speak about the Soviet Union
to use the words "policy" and "politics" in their speech
to act out short dialogues
Teacher -Good afternoon boys and girls. Let's begin our lesson. On the
blackboard you can see the political map of the world. Do you know the
biggest countries in the world?
Student 1 -Yes, I do. The biggest countries are Russia, Canada, China, America,
Brazil, Australia, India.
Teacher -Yes, you are right. I see you know geography rather well. As you guessed, we will speak about the history of Russia and political situation in the world. Do you know that Russia was even bigger before 1991. What countries did Russia comprise? Can you show them on the map? Now these countries are independent. By the way, what was Russia called?
Student 1 - It was called the Soviet Union and it comprised Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan. (the student shows them on the map)
Teacher - Well done. Today we will learn some more information about the first and the last Soviet President Michail Gorbachev. Open your textbooks at page 88, read the text and put the following sentences in the right order.

Teacher- Today we will learn the difference between the words "policy" and "politics". When we say "policy" we mean a plan of action, a set of ideas.(политика, план действий, линия поведения, правило поведения, тактика)

We use "politics" in singular when we speak about political affairs or life. (Политика)
Adults like to discuss politics.
He went into politics and became a professional politician.
We also use "politics" in plural when we speak about person's believes about government's work (убеждения, политические взгляды)
I don't know much about her politics.
