Good morning, students! How are you?
We study Unit 7 and it deals with some aspects of the environment. The topic of our lesson today is “Role-play”, so you will be able to make and give your decisions in roles of councils.
First, let’s think of endangered species. What are they? Which species of our region are in danger?
Today you are going to evaluate yourselves. Each of you receives “Evaluation list”, where you should write down your name and surname. One mark will be for your homework, the next – for quiz, and during the classwork you’ll put plus for each correct answer.
Checking homework/ Revision of the previous lesson
Animals, plants, habitats, and human beings are all interrelated and affect one another. The decisions that we make in everyday life have a substantial effect on every other part of the environment. Every decision made in dealing with environmental issues has a result either positive or negative. Your hometask was to create possible solutions to the problems of our environment. So today you are the councils and your job is to make the decisions and statements that you believe are the best course of action. Each group of councils has their problem and you have 5 minutes to present the solutions.
How will you evaluate the work of the group?
Put your marks into a list of evaluation.
Let’s revise your vocabulary on the topic “Global warming”. I’ll give you cards with the task. You should do the exercises in 5 minutes and then we’ll check.
Your time is gone; exchange your papers with the other groups. Let’s check.
Give the papers back. Put your marks into a list of evaluation.
1 Carbon dioxide is an important gaz; burning of carbon-based fuels since the industrial revolution has rapidly increased the concentration, leading to global warming.
2 The objective of the financing instrument for cooperation for the period 2007-2013 is to promote enhanced cooperation between the European Union (EU) and industrial and other high-income countries.
3 In 2010, the National Research Council concluded that "Greenhouse effect is occurring, is very likely caused by human activities, and poses significant risks for a broad range of human and natural systems". Scientists are still researching a number of important questions, including exactly how much Earth will warm, how quickly it will warm, and what the consequences of the warming will be in specific regions of the world.
4 A species of plant or animal that has declined in numbers to a point where further irreversible decline and extinction has a significant chance called endangered species.
5 An ice cap is a high-latitude region of a planet or moon that is covered in ice.
6 Natural inhabitats include wild flora and fauna.
7 Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity.
8 The electricity can be produced by using solar and nuclear power.
Ex. 1, p. 77
Open your books at p. 77, look at the photos. In groups you have a minute to discuss the questions 1 and 2.
Ex. 2-3, p. 77
You are going to hear two students discussing environmental solutions at their school.
First tell me, what is paraphrasing?
Paraphrasing is finding another way to say something.
We use paraphrasing when we don’t know the exact word for something.
Ex. 4, p. 77
Look at the photos in exercise 4. How would you describe the thing if you couldn’t remember the correct term? (Students give their descriptions.)
In your groups think if you could choose one measure from ex. 4 to make your school “greener” which idea would you take? Why?
Interrogation of the new subject
What have you learned today? What can you do now?
At home you should do exercises from Workbook, section 7F at p. 63
Thank you for your active participation at the lesson. Your marks for the lesson are…
