Этапы урока
(Stages):
1 Организационный
этап (1 minute)
The
teacher greets the pupils and asks about the date and pupils’ mood.
2 Постановка целей и задачи урока. Мотивация
учебной деятельности учащихся (2 minutes)
The
classroom is decorated with various symbols of St. Valentine’s Day – pictures
of hearts, arrows, Cupid. The pupils are divided into 4 teams. Each pupil gets
a piece of a picture connected with the topic of the contest (Appendix 1) and
looks for its other parts in order to find the members of his team. The teacher
sets some background music. As soon as all the teams are formed, its members
choose the names for their teams.
3 Этапы соревнования (35
minutes)
1 The pupils work in teams
doing Valentine’s rhymes (Appendix 2). The fastest team with correct answers
gets 1 point for the activity.
2 The pupils get the
worksheets with some Valentine’s vocabulary scrambled (Appendix 3). They try to
unscramble the words faster than the other teams. The fastest team gets one more
point.
3 The teams get the cards in
the shape of broken hearts and match the 2 parts of the proverbs about love.
The fastest team gets a point.
4 The next task for the teams
is miming the symbols of love. One representative of a team gets a card with a
word; another team tries to guess it. If the team guesses the word, the “mimes”
get one point. The words suggested for miming – ROSE, ARROW, KISS, BE MINE,
POEM, HEART, CUPID, GIFT.
5 The teams get a set of
broken hearts and match the two halves of famous couples (Bonnie and Clyde,
Dante and Beatrice, Princess Fiona and Shrek, Homer Simpson and Marge Bouvier,
Cinderella and Prince Charming, Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Izolde, Aladdin
and Princess Jasmine, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Samson and Delilah, Napoleon
and Josephine, Simba and Nola, Cleopatra and Caesar, John Kennedy and Jaclyn
Kennedy, Ken and Barbie, Beauty and the Beast, Adam and Eve, John Lennon and Yoko
Ono, Rhett Butler and Scarlet O’Hara). The fastest team to do the task gets a
point.
6 Back-pocket activity:
The teams get the strips with some “heart” idioms. They match them with their
definitions as fast as possible (Appendix 5). The fastest team gets a point.
7 The teams choose the
representatives for the forfeiting part of the contest. If they perform the
task successfully, their team gets a point, but the teams have the chance to
refuse to do the task (Appendix 6) losing one of their points for each refusal.
8 The teams listen
to the song “I just called to say…” by Stevie Wonder. Each team gets the lyrics
of the song (Appendix 7). Each team has to perform the song in different
musical styles according to the strip picked. The styles suggested are RAP,
FOLK, ROCK, JAZZ, BLUES, and LULLABY.
4 Рефлексия (подведение итогов занятия) (2 minutes)
At the end of the
lesson the teams get the certificates according to the score they have gained.

Приложение 6 (Appendix 6)
Приложение 7 (Appendix 7)
"I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder
No New
Year's Day to celebrate
No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring
No song to sing
In fact here's just another ordinary day
No April rain
No flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
No summer's high
No warm July
No harvest moon to light one tender August night
No autumn breeze
No falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies
No Libra sun
No Halloween
No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring
But what it is, though old so new
To fill your heart like no three words could ever do
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
