Цель: создать учащимся условия, необходимые
для их самостоятельного применения своих знаний и умений по теме «Человек и
общество», с использованием технологий case-study и развития критического
мышления; систематизировать знания и умения учащихся по теме “People and
society: Great Philosophers of the World”.
Aims:
1.
to develop pupils` speech and reading habits;
2.
to revise the topical vocabulary;
3.
to organize the using of the topical vocabulary in pupils` speech;
4.
to develop pupils` ability to understand the authentic text;
5.
to organize the individual work of the pupils and their pair work;
6.
to expend pupils` outlook. (The lesson is organized in the form of a
presentation.)
Plan
I. The beginning of the lesson. Warming up.
1. T: Dear friends! Today we are going to speak about
people who did or are doing smth for their people, about social problems in the
world and in our country, and what people should do to make this society
better. I`d like to begin the lesson with the words of S. Wright “Respect
should be earned by actions and not acquired by years.”_Will you comment on the
quotation? (students say what they think about it) / INTRODUCTOIN

what they did or are doing for their peoples. (students speak about M.
Gorbachov, J. Kennedy, Kofi A. Annan, A. Sakharov).

IV. Rights and freedoms.
T: We live in a legal society. It means that people of
our society are entitled to some rights and freedoms. These basic human rights
are international. Let’s speak about Russia
– Who guarantees the rights and freedoms in the Russian Federation?
– In what documents can you find them?
– Do you know any basic rights and freedoms people have?
– Look at the text and name them. (ex.47, p. 103) (The rights to: work/
health care/ education/ travel/ housing/ life/ fair trial/ equality vote.
Freedoms of: conscience/ speech.)
– How well are they observed in our country and how are they or were they

Card 3. Places of Interest in Moscow
Moscow is the biggest city of Russia and its capital. The
city is situated on the Moskva River and was found more than 800 years ago.
Nowadays, Moscow is one of the most beautiful cities in the
world. It houses many attractive parks and squares, great architectural wonders
and countless places of interest.
Special attention is always put to the city center, as there
are the most famous sights. Among them the outstanding Kremlin and the Red
Square, the Bolshoi and the Maly Theaters, Saint Basil's Cathedral, the Historical
Museum, the Armoury Chamber and many others.
Moscow is not only the official capital of Russia,
it’s also considered to be the cultural, educational, industrial and scientific
center of the country. That’s why, the largest and most important museums,
galleries, opera houses, universities, companies, research centers are all
situated there. The best place for art lovers in Moscow is the Tretyakov State
Gallery, which holds a large collection of Russian fine art.
Another interesting collection of paintings and sculptures is held in the
Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
In the very heart of the capital you can find the Historical
Museum and the Armoury chamber. Both these museums can tell more about Russian
history than any other place.
One of the newest and most famous religious sights in Moscow
is the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. It’s situated on the bank of the Moskva
River and is known as the tallest Orthodox church in the world. The view of
Christ the Saviour’s Cathedral strikes imagination with its grandeur and
magnificence.
Other than that, Moscow has a great number of famous parks,
squares, theaters, monuments, streets and concert halls. Undoubtedly, Moscow
is a very special city.
