T.: Good morning dear students and
colleagues. I am glad to see you. Takeyourseats, please. Let’sbeginourlesson.
T.: Today we are going to
speak about «Money and financing management». This topic is very actual
nowadays, everybody knows about the globalfinancialcrisis and the consequences
of this.
I like this quote by an
American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Before borrowing money from a friend decide which you
need most.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), American poet,
essayist
I think that money doesn’t
buy happiness but, of cause, it helps.
Before money appeared there
had been Commodity.
What is Commodity?(students’
answer)
Name the forms of Commodity.
(students’ answer)
Commodity has its properties
– so it has the cost….
When did money first appear?
Money, with its special characteristics,
serves many important economic functions.
Money
is anything that people commonly accept in exchange for goods and services.
Money has three basic functions.
To
be used as money, an item must have certain characteristics. The five major
characteristics of money are durability, portability, divisibility,
stability in value, and acceptability.
Money
comes in all shapes and sizes. The items used as money are a reflection of the
society in which they are used. Money as a rule includes coins, paper
money, checks and near money.(субститут
денег)
Money
must have and retain value. All money falls into three categories
according to what gives the money its value.
The three categories of money
are commodity money, representative money, and fiat money.
Give examples of commodity
money, representative money, and fiat money
(1. Precious metals such as
gold and silver, and gems such as rubies, emeralds, and diamonds, have
often been used as money; 2. Checks are representative money because they can
be exchanged for currency as long as the check writer has sufficient funds on
account; 3. coins and paper money)
But a lot of money and
commodity causes a lot of troubles.
Now you are to study the
given case.
Chrysler in Trouble?
Or How to Cope with Credit Crunch
Aftereffects?"
Chrysler & Fiat
Brand

According to the analysts, the major
reasons for Chrysler's present financial problems were its poor business
strategy, lack of innovation, and the global financial crisis. According to
David Lewis, Professor at University of Michigan's Ross School of Business,
"In recent decades, it's had a more turbulent time, with more ups and
downs than other automakers. Each decade, it seemed that Chrysler had a
crisis."...
