Write down your ideas on the sheets of paper in groups.

I’ll describe the type of the film , and you try to guess.

a) It can last for months and even years, the action is rather slow. If you miss one series, or even ten, you find that the plot has not developed much. The characters can be neither clever nor interesting, but they become like a part of your family. (a soap opera)

b) It provokes excitement and nervous tension into audience. It keeps people unsure what is going to happen. (a thriller)

c) It is about naval, air or land battles during the time of armed conflicts. (a war film)

- And now you are going to work in groups of four. For each group I’ ll give any type of film and you are to describe it in order the others could guess it without naming it.

(comedy, horror film, cartoon, science fiction, adventure)

  1. Listening.

Now listen to the text about Al Pacino and get ready to write a test.

The text.

Al Pacino is one of the most famous and successful actors in the world. He has been in 27 films, two of which he has directed himself. His presence in any film guarantees success.

Born on the 25th April 1940 in New York, Al Pacino grew up in a poor family. His parents divorced when he was small. And he lived with his grandmother. As a boy he used to imitate the scenes from films he had seen and later decided to follow this path. He studied acting at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York.

Probably his most famous role was that of Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather”. The story of an Italian family made him famous not only in America but also internationally. Maybe because of this first important role, Al Pacino went on to play gangsters and mafia members in many of his other films.

Task: Listen to the statements and write down “T” (true) or “F” (false). (worksheet)

  1. Al Pacino is well-known all over the world.

  2. He has been in 37 films.

  3. He has never directed films himself.

  4. He was born on the 25th of April 1940 in Los Angeles.

  8. His most famous role is in Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather”
