PLAN OF THE LESSON

Aims of the lesson:

  • to activate the vocabulary on the topic “Hobby”;

  • to improve reading habits;

  • to teach the pupils to analyse the text;

  • to introduce the life and creative work of the outstanding American cartoon –maker Walt Disney;

  • to develop monological speech habits;

  • to present the pupils’ projects” My Favourite Disney Character”.

The Order of the Lesson:

I. Greetings! Introduction of the subject and the objectives of the lesson.

Dialogue with the pupil on duty. The last question the teacher

asks is “Do you like cartoon?”


II. Activation of the vocabulary

1) Match the transcription with the word


2) Fill up the missed letters.


3) Guess the word


4) Match the word with its translation


5) Complete the sentences:

1) Taras Shevtchenko … in 1814.

2) What do you …?

3) Ukraine is my native … .

4) A writer … different characters in his book.

5) A very interesting film will be … next week.

6) The cartoon was a great … .

III. Improving Reading Habits..

Pre-reading Task.

- Have you ever heard of Walt Disney?

- What is he famous for?

- Now look through the text to find the answers to these questions.

- Answer the Questions using the text

Let’s watch my presentation about Walt Disney and present your projects.

Look at these characters from different Disney’s cartoons and answer the questions. Can you name all?

The Plan of the Answer:

1) What is his/her/its name?

2) What cartoon is he/she/it from?

3) What is the cartoon about?

4) Does the cartoon end happily?

5) Is this cartoon interesting to watch?

6) Will you advise your classmates to watch it?

Not all of them were created by Disney himself but all these cartoons were shot by The Walt Disney Company.

When did he die?

Walter Elias Disney was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, and entrepreneur. The corporation he co-founded with his brother Roy O. Disney is called The Walt Disney Company

Let’s translate the new words (Working with the Anglo-Russian Glossary Slide 30)

We’ll travel through the most famous Disney’s cartoons and speak about them.

Read the information. When was Mickey Mouse created? Guess the meaning “voiced” = “gave his voice”

Do you know the names of other characters from this cartoon? Have you ever seen this cartoon? What is it about?

Can you translate and explain the names of the Seven Dwarfs?

(Doc – Розумник; Grumpy - Буркун, Happy - Веселун, Sleepy - Сонько, Bashful - Скромник, Sneezy – Чхун, Dopey – Простак) and now we’ll look at Sasha’s story and look at her picture.

Disney had an idea of building a children’s theme park and spent 5 years of his life developing Disneyland in California. It was opened on July 18, 1955. There were 20 attractions. A lot of Disney characters can be found throughout the park greeting visitors, posing for photos, playing with children.

His worldwide popularity was based upon the ideals which his name represents: imagination, optimism, creation, and self-made success in the American tradition. He brought us closer to the future, while telling us of the past, it is certain, that there will never be such as great a man, as Walt Disney.

Pluto was not created by Disney. It came into being in 1983. But he is as clever and kind as all Disney characters. Ilia Shulika will tell you about it.
