“A

George Bernard Shaw
The older I become
the more I think about the place of fashion in my life. All my friends try to keep
fashion and beauty advice.
For many teens, hair
and clothing is as important to them as food and water. Whether it’s tattooing,
body piercing, or the latest look in clothing, teens express themselves through
what they wear and how they look. That’s because adolescence is a time when
kids are creating their own separate identity and a large part of that is
expressed through fashion. In our whole life, in our one time, there is a very
small window of opportunity between the years of 13 and 19 where it’s okay to
have blue hair, a shaved head, holey jeans. This window of opportunity is an
opportunity for us as well to celebrate the changes that our teens are going
through and their growth into adulthood. Tattoos and piercing are very popular
in this age. Young people prefer this body decoration. It´s very modern. People
have tongue pierced, have eyebrow pierced, ear, nose and mouth too. Piercing
you can have anywhere. Tattoos are very modern too. You can have tattoo
anywhere. Tattoo can be color or white-black or other color combination. People
have tattoo on shoulder, back, chest, head, neck. . .Some extreme people have
tattoos everywhere. . .They are in Guiness book.
History
of fashion
People followed different
fashion tendencies in different periods of history. During the 1950s a new
market grouping called teenagers was created and fashion was becoming more and
more focused on youth.
In the 1950s young women
and teenage girls wore skirts with petticoats and cardigans. Tight trousers or
jeans with oversize jumpers were in fashion for both teenage girls and boys.
In period from 1960 to
1967 the miniskirt and tights appeared. Young women and teenage girls looked
like children in baby-doll dresses and pinafores which they used to wear with
high boots. Black polo-neck sweaters became popular thanks to the Beatles.
Jeans were popular and denim was also used for shirts, jackets and hats.
Fashion was also becoming universal for girls and boys.
In the period from the
late 1960s to the 1970s individuality was above all. The ethnic style came into
fashion together with hippies. Clothes were often customized with embroidery.
In 1969 the maxi was introduced. As to footwear young men and women wore
platform shoes.
In the early 1970s
“flares” and “bags” came into fashion. During the mid-1970s the punk style
appeared but soon sportswear became very popular.
In 1980s shoulder-padded
shirts and jackets became trendy. Tracksuits, leggings and training shoes
became fashionable uniform that men and women of all ages wore.
In 1990s young people
enjoyed wearing clothes in different styles. Clubwear, streetwear and
sportswear are the three main tendencies in today’s young fashion.
Jeans
or school uniform
We know that most
teenagers have got idols among pop-singers, actors, actresses and other
celebrities. They learn how to behave and act as role models for teens. Most
of our friends watch “Fashion TV” and read lots of articles with beauty and
fashion advice from magazines. They try to dress stylishly and don’t pay
attention to convenience of the clothes.
For example, Skinny Low Waist jeans are
very popular among teenagers. But less of them think about the
sequel of wearing these jeans.
Dangers from jeans
with low waist;
Disturb normal blood
circulation;
Squeeze the nervous
terminations;
Rub;
In the winter - waist overcooling (A disease of
kidneys, a bladder, a backbone)
Our opinion -it isn’t worth our health.
Most people wear some
clothes because it is what other people wear and not because they like it. And,
in some cases, they don’t even look well in those clothes. Others want to
change their physical appearance just to look like famous people because they
think they are perfect.
In our opinion the
clothes we wear have to be comfortable and according to what we like to wear
and feel good in. I myself buy clothes that I like because they are my style
and not because everyone else wears that type of clothes.
We study in school and
we have to wear a uniform or keep to business style in clothes. To my mind it’s
not a bad idea.
It’s interesting to
know that recent survey showed that 72 % of teenagers in our school want to
wear the school uniform. How to dress is certainly very important for us, but
in our work we tried to pay attention to such fashionable things as tattoo and
piercing. They are rather popular among teens, and we tried to learn their
history first.
Tattoo’s
history
A tattoo is a form of
body modification, made by inserting indelible ink into the dermis layer of the
skin to change the pigment. The word "tattoo" was brought to Europe
by the explorer James Cook, when he returned in 1771 from his first voyage to
Tahiti and New Zealand.
Tattooing
has been practiced for centuries in many cultures, particularly in Asia, and
spread throughout the world. The Ainu, an indigenous people of Japan,
traditionally had facial tattoos. Today, one can find Atayal, Seediq, Truku,
and Saisiyat of Taiwan, Berbers of Tamazgha (North Africa), Hausa people of Northern
Nigeria, and Māori of New Zealand with facial tattoos.
Tattoo is about 6000
years old. Patterns of primitive people were a constant fighting coloring, an
indicator of valor and a social standing of the owner. With civilization
development the tattoo began to be applied as punishment. The Christian church
with condemnation treated drawing tattoos.
Since the 1990s,
tattoos have become a mainstream part of global and Western fashion, common
among both sexes, to all economic classes, and to age groups from the later
teen years to middle age. For many young Americans, the tattoo has taken on a
decidedly different meaning than for previous generations.During the 2000s
(decade), the presence of tattoos became evident within pop culture.
We’ve learned that
tattoo is not harmless thing. In some medical articles we read about its
complications.
As for us, we
absolutely against it.
We’re
against tattoo:
Process of
drawing tattoos is unsafe.
It is very
difficult to remove a tattoo;
Fashion
floatingly, and tattoo for the rest of life;
Can prevent
career;
The tattoo
doesn't allow forget about reputation and the past.
We tried to find
out the danger of tattoo to our health.
Why are tattoos so dangerous?
Can cause an
allergy;
Cause
various inflammatory processes;
Promote a
disease of kidneys;
By 9 times the
risk increases to catch hepatitis C;
The risk of
infection with HIV infection is great;
It is possible
to catch other infectious diseases.
Another fashionable thing which is also
popular among young people is piercing.
History
of piercing
Piercing
is a form of body modification, is the practice of puncturing or cutting a part
of the human body, creating an opening in which jewelery may be worn.
Most of my friends
made ears piercing even in childhood, but we think it’s normal.
When we talk about
nose , lips, navel ,tongue or eyebrow piercing that’s another cup of tea.
I surfed the Net to
learn more about the history of piercing.Modern piercing is one of the popular
styles of art.
Ear piercinghas been
practiced all over the world since ancient times. Mummified bodies with pierced
ears have been discovered the 5,300 year-old Ötzi the Iceman, which was found
in a glacier in Austria.
Nose piercingalso has
a long history about 1500 b.c.
Nose piercing has
been practiced by the Bedouin tribes of the Middle East and the
Berber
and
people of Africa, as well as Australian Aborigines.
Lip piercingand lip
stretching were historically found in African and American tribal cultures.
Pierced of the lip were sported by the peoples of Papua New Guinea and
Amazonia.
In
ancient times the body piercing was considered as sign of manliness and
courage. The Egyptian Pharaohs brought earring at the navel that was a sign of
ritual transition from the life at the Earth to the eternity. Indian women can
make nose piercing after their marriage. Indian men use tongue piercing as a
sight of vow silence. The modern record has been vitiated with the 20th century
inventions of piercing enthusiast Doug Malloy.By the early part of the 20th
century, piercing of any body part had become uncommon in the West.
Danger of piercing:
Using rings in lip
piercing can hurt the gum.
Wrong tongue piercing
can cause ageusia.
Navel piercing is
threaten by inflammation of umbilical. During the gestation the women with
navel piercing can have the abdomen burst.
Is it worth our
health? When we studied materials for our project work we assured themselves
of danger this fashionable mania.
It’s always
dangerous:
Piercing can
cause infection diseases, open sores, bleedings.
Piercing can
bring up to deadly diseases such as hepatitis B and C, syphilis, AIDS, tetanus,
sepsis, tuberculosis.
The
survey
When we studied the history of these
fashionable manias and learned about their consequences we tried to share this
information with our friends. Our teacher helped us to interview the students
from 7-8 forms (100 students). We wanted to know their views on following
questions.
61% said that they dislike it.
36% like it.
And 3% don’t think
about it.
What is more
popular-tattoo or piercing?
35%
think that it’s tattoo,
15%-piercing
And half of teens
don’t think about it.
Do you want to do
piercing or tattoo?
22% want to do
tattoo
20
%-piercing
and 58% don’t want to
do anything.
65% think that these
things are dangerous, but 35% don’t.
We were so glad that
most of students think about the danger of fashionable manias and don’t want to
do it themselves. We want to hit it over the fence.
Be careful
Is it worth to
risk your health?
Not all that
fashionably is healthy.
Our health is order
of the day at all times and nobody annoy it!
Сonclusion
Learning the
history of tattoo and piercing we tried to understand why they have a great
influence on teenagers. Made the survey of 100 students, we came to the
conclusion that teens admire models and famous stars and they often want to
look like them, want to feel themselves as grown-up. Fashion has a great
influence on their mind and even their health, either positive or negative. In our
opinion this is bad. Teenagers should be more natural and have their own
personality. They should be interested in other things more important than
fashion.
To sum up we want to
give some important rules .
Don’t forget,
your health is in your hands.
Try to keep fit.
Go in for sports.
Moving is living base!
Give up
pernicious habits.
Rouse yourself.
