T: - “Hello! I am glad to see you! My name is Svetlana and I`m going to teach you English (показать жестами).  Let’s get to know each other. We are going to play “Hot potato - game”.  I’ll throw the ball to one of you asking your name. You’ll throw it to someone else saying “My name is …” The next student ask the name of the student and throw the ball and so on.

T: “Right! Well done. ” (Написать на доске). We use the word “hi” in informal situations.  When we meet close friend, parents & so on. We may use “Hello”, “Good morning”” to greet people that we see for the first time. These phrases are formal and polite. “Good evening” and “Good afternoon” are more formal then “Hello” and “Good morning”.  Where can we use formal words? What do you think? (In conferences, official meetings and so on) Write down in the copybooks”.

Production of the new language

T: “Now I need 2 people. I’ll give them cards with 2 situation (at a party, a conference), you should choose 1 (4 cards) and act the dialogue with the other students. You should introduce yourself at list 5 students, ask the names. You make shake your hands, or some gestures, say “Nice to meet you”, “Sorry.” Look at the page 4, here is a dialogue in the bottom of the page, it may help you. Who wants to try?

T: “Let’s play a game. There are some signs in the six squares. Draw 4 faces in the first, second, fourth and the last square.  In the third and the fifth squares draw whatever you want. ”

T: “The first face is how you see yourself. The second is how other people see you. The third is your attitude to your work.  The forth face is real you. The fifth is your house. The last one is your partner. ”

T: “Let’s discuss. Was this task  interesting for you? What was the most interesting for you. What was unexpected for you? What about your attitude to your work? ”

Introduction of the new Grammar material

T: “Look at the ex. 2a.The first sentence  is “I’m Tom.” What does the word “I’m” mean?”

I’m” is a short form of “I am” We use it in informal speech. Complete the other sentences with “are, is, am.”

T:  “The verb “to be” (написать на доске).  Let’s change the form.  (I am, You are, …). Give me the contractions to these pronouns, i.e. short forms. There are some rules.

Use capital I. You for singular and plural and formal, informal situations.  He for a man, she for a woman, it for a thing. They for people and things. When do we use contractions? In conversations. Let’ practice pronunciation. Repeat after me: “you are – you’re….. . ”

Open your SB on page 122, there is the Grammar Bank 1A. Let’s read the examples.”

Introduction of the reading rules

T: “Look at the poster on the blackboard.

We have 2 kinds of sounds (vowel, consonant). We are going to talk about vowels. There are short, long and diphthongs (Написать примеры на доске).  Long vowels go with dots [a:]. Diphthongs – two sounds together (e+i+=ei. Train, they). When you open dictionaries, you can find there transcription. These phonetic symbols help us to pronounce the words clearly. Look at the page 5 ex. 3a. Listen to CD carefully. Then we’ll play it again and repeat after the speaker”

Write down your homework. WB, page 4 ex. 1, 2a, b. In the first exercise you should complete   the dialogues with phrases. In the second exercise you should complete   the first column with the words from box. On the second column write down the contractions (short forms). In the exercise 2b complete the sentences with pronouns and verb to be using contractions.
