In the Centre of Tower of London there is the famous White Tower which is the most ancient part of Tower and the oldest building of London. William the Conqueror built it after his successful invasion. It's not white , it became dark with age. It is a museum now.
This is the Bloody Tower. It has such name because it once became a state prison and a place for executions for the greatest political leaders. In 1483 King Edward IV's two sons were murdered in the so-called Bloody Tower . For many it was their last moment of freedom before their death. But Elizabeth was released from the Tower and became Queen
The Zoo In the beginning of XIII century John Bezzemelnyj contained in a Tower of lions. However the royal menagerie has arisen, when John Henry's successor III has received as a gift from the son-in-law and the emperor of Sacred Roman empire Fridriha of II Gogenshtaufena three leopard, a polar bear and an elephant. The King's second wife, Anne Boleyn, was brought to trial there in 1536 and beheaded. Six years later her cousin, Catherine the fifth wife of Henry VIII suffered the same fate. Sir Thomas More was beheaded there in 1535. Today the Tower is a monument of history and a museum.
The mint and the royal arsenal More than 500 years in a Tower was the main branch of a royal mint. One of its most rough periods has had on Henry's VIII board when coins minted from the silver requisitioned from destroyed monasteries. Traditions of the Tower Of course, no visit to the Tower would be complete without seeing the ravens; huge black birds who are an official part of the Tower community. Legend states that if the ravens were to leave the Tower the Crown will fall, and Britain with it. Under the special care of the Raven Master, the ravens are fed a daily diet of raw meat. And there is no danger of them flying away, because their wings are clipped. <= back
