Children of War. The presentation is made by Natalya Bashkirova, 8th form, gymnasium № 9, Kuznetsk
Modern school children know about the War only by oral stories, books and films. Most of them don't know how the children of war years lived, what they were doing or what they were dreaming about. Children of War... They still remember that horror which had to be outlived. Those who went to war had to forget about their childhood because children don't exist at war.
We, now-living ones, must treasure our memories about the war without fear of violating the serenity of early years. Memories are our history. Don't erase the past because doing so we would erase our future.
First faced to evil and cruelty, hatred was ripening to enemies in childish hearts. Children took part in guerrilla groups, fought in the military units and were "sons and daughters of regiments". Pioneers in the rear worked in factories and took part in civil defense. The Timurite movement helped grown-ups selflessly and performed some work in fields and in farms. They helped families of veterans and elderly people, looked after juniors, took part in the provision of firewood, made presents by hand for veterans, darn clothes and learnt to wash and cook. Despite the unsettling situation, malnutrition and sorrow, the children continued going to school and even performed in concerts at hospitals; sang, danced, read poems and took part in plays. It was a hard time of removing selfishness, moodiness and exactingness from children.
The memory saves human dignity and helps to see life's sense and that's why after many years school children with pride and excitement will write about the feat of young patriots and their childhood parched by the war.
